DiskMonTools nag-screen

I've just got to thank Prowler for pointing me out to DiskMonTools. Took me a while to work things out but now I'm loving the program! Previously I only knew how to change a bootblock checksum using ARIII, so it's great to know how to change the checksums of other sectors at last!

Bit annoying that you get a long nag-screen every time you quit out of the program though. Anyone know if a registered version ever leaked?

Why don't you try cracking the program itself to remove the nag screen?

Your question if DiskMonTools has been cracked. I don't know about the nag requester of DMT but I'm sure it's not hard to remove. So indeed, why don't do you it yourself? THAT would actually really surprise me for a change.

A big thanks to MG for removing the DiskMonTools nag-screen. That will make it possible to nip in and out of the disk editor so much more quickly in future to check other things whenever I'm recovering a disk.

Dunno how long you're using DMT already but you know, you could've asked if someone here could remove the nag requesters.

I had meant to do it myself, but somehow never got around to it.

Depending on the type of nag requester, my util Reqhack might well have been able to remove them

It's a custom message so I don't think a standard "patch the requester windows" kind of patch will work.

Depending on my level of boredom I may or may not code a keyfile generator for it.

Funnily enough, while messing about with DiskMonTools I discovered a way to make it ask for some details from you which it'll then use to generate a keyfile out of thin air. The program will then list your name on the main screen at least.

Not that the keyfile in itself actually gets rid of the nags though - perhaps there's something else I've missed along the way. Although it doesn't really matter as I forced the nags down anyway!

This thread has been created by moving or copying the above posts from the Battle Chess - obscure on-disk protection? thread.

I'm sure anything done to this program that helps expedite prowler's disk recovery projects will pay dividends in the future.

Yes, there is a routine to write a keyfile, saw that too when I had a quick look yesterday.

Well, that's one way to crack it but in this case I would always try to make a valid key because then you don't have to tamper with the executable and it's a much cleaner solution.

Thanks, Cosmic!

I couldn't get stevsurv's "working keyfile" working with version 3.13, but MethodGit's nag-screen solution works brilliantly! It quits instantly!

Working keyfile does work with 3.13 sw. Uploaded complete 3.1sw with keyfile to the zone. To make it work you have to delete ALL old "diskmontools.key" AND "diskmon.key" keyfiles in the BOOT drive by doing a search and especially delete the ones in your S/ directory. It works perfectly on my Amiga's!
