Got some hardware to give away, best for people looking for a project...
Hi,
As the thread title suggests, I'm looking to offload some retro computing/gaming hardware. Not looking for any money, apart from cost of postage. Both of the devices are in need of a bit of work, but this work is minimal. First up is a hard modded Xbox (Xbox 1 rather than 360). Got a controller, remote control, and a few games for it too. Only thing is, it doesn't have a hard drive, so you'll need to install your own (it takes IDE drives rather than SATA). It's necessary to do a bit of prep before hard drives work with Xboxes, but the modchip installed (Xecuter 3, which is one of the better ones) should help here. For the Xbox I've also got surface mount RAM chips that could be installed inside, doubling the RAM from 64MB to 128MB. This RAM can be used by select emulators to run games that aren't easy to run otherwise, as well as by XBMC, which is one of the best reasons to have a modded Xbox. I've got 8 RAM chips in total, but a pin broke off on one of the chips, might be possible to fix. Each Xbox you mod with extra RAM needs 4 of these chips. I don't think they're that easy to come by now, if you're up for a bit of surface mount soldering you could easily make yourself a very nice souped up Xbox with what I'm giving away. The other device I have to give away is a ZX Spectrum. It was my first computer. Haven't turned it on in a while, think the keyboard membrane went on it, but I do have a replacement keyboard membrane for it. Also have the necessary tape deck, a few games (most of the ones I had are missing), plus a joystick adapter. Giving it all away as want to cut down on how many possessions I have. Posting here as I'd like them to go to a good home, someone who appreciates older machines. If you're interested, please post a reply here, will be first come first served. Thanks. |

Galahad, just spoken to Akira over PM, he'd like you to have the Xbox, so its yours. Congrats! ;-)
Makes it easy that you live in Bath too. Would you like to pick it up instead of paying postage? If so, I'll PM you my mobile number so we can arrange a time and place. @all Still got that ZX Spectrum to give away. Apart from the internal keyboard membrane, it's in great condition, and fixing up the keyboard shouldn't take longer than an hour. Perhaps you've already got one but know someone you'd like to give a Speccy too? As I said before, I only expect the cost of postage. Think one of the games I still have is Silkworm, which was my favorite game to play on the system, it's a fantastic game, even better in 2 player co-op. Here's how it looked on the Spectrum: [ Show youtube player ] |

Just checked this thread, was expecting replies via PM.
The Spectrum is boxed up, ready to go. Now that Mike UK has found one elsewhere, it's available again. bugsthor, do you still want it? I'm still in the process of collecting up the Xbox parts, will PM Galahad again once I've done so. |

Okay, I'm now opening up the opportunity to get the Spectrum. Remember, it's free (apart from the cost of postage). If you're interested, PM me.
