Crash on accessing hard disk?

Iam using ClassicWB Full with an A1200 + Micronik RA1210 with 8mb ram and an 68881. All of this is installed on a 4gb CF card in 4 1gb partitions.

When I try to open a hard disk, the Amiga crashes, and goes to a random software faulure message. This message is never the same.

The Amiga then reboots to the 3.0 Romscreen asking for my Workbench disk.

What's up with my baby?

Edit: After rebooting without the expansion card in, i can access the hard disk fine, but not with it plugged in.

Edit2: Booting from my workbench floppy, it allows me to access the hard disks; I'm going to try a reinstall of ClassicWB

How is the max_transfer value on the partitions? For CF as HD the value can never go over 0x1FE00!

The max_transfer rate is set at 0xFFFFFF, so I think that is ok?

I'm trying out a few different compact flash disks today; and a 40mb HDD I have lying around.

I keep getting an error "DH0 program failed error #800000004 Wait for disk activity to finish".

I wonder how you can think that ffffff might be ok if you have been told that it should not be higher than 1fe00 just one sentence before. 1fe00 looks smaller than ffffff even if you don't know what the letters and numbers mean.

However, crashes like yours usually happen when memory has been corrupted. This can be caused by bad software but also by bad hardware like broken RAM chips, loose contact between memory expansion and mother board or a weak power supply.

Tried out all 3 of my CF cards.
All have been wiped with diskpart through dos on my pc.
I can't prep the hard drives through UAE because my card reader fails to be recognised.
HDToolbox is refusing to allow me to change the max_transfer value (I do not know why, it just won't save)

I'm still getting guru errors, and I'm still getting checksum errors.
I'm trying to install SFS on either partition but I can't seem to get anything onto the drive without getting some sort of error.
I've taken a few pictures for you guys to take a look at, but I can't see anything visually wrong.

Are my jumpers set up right?
It's configured for 4mb ram, but I'm unsure of what the red jumper is for, the card is marked Ext/Int and it's currently set to Int.
Jumpers S3, S2, and S0 are switched on, where S1 is not.

My power supply is a stock a1200 one- surely this has enough power to cover what I'm using?

And while were at it, can anyone point me towards a cheap USB Compact Flash reader that Winuae will recognise?

Many thanks, Jim

You need to press Tab or Enter in the input field to confirm the change.

Every reader which works in Windows will be recognised by WinUAE.

Ok, so apparently I made a drunken impulse bid on ebay a few days ago.

Consequently a viper 1230/30mhz + 3 ram boards arrived this morning.
I've tested out the ram from the micronik in my viper and it's faulty (thank fuck).
I can only conclude that my fumbling idiocity must have fried it on input.

So i've set up my partitions with SFS correctly, installed ClassicWB Full, and im now getting all of my games, modules and other programs sorted out

Thanks for all the help, it's brought up some newbie questions that needed answering; and I've also learnt how to use different filesystems and format correctly!
