That is quite old. Although amilo's isn't much newer. You could have a look at whatever power/performance settings you have. Setting line doubling to single in display settings, and using the filter settings to set the screen height x2 instead helps.

Grumpy old bloke mode removed, dead tired and a flood in my bathroom didn't help

Why not treat yourself to a new PC? Sounds like you badly need an upgrade.

I assume you're running Windows XP? That's no longer supported by Microsoft, and as a result you're prone to viruses and malware more than ever before. I highly recommend Windows 7 as an upgrade. It's not too steep an upgrade and I think it's better than all the other Windows OS's that came after.

Regardless, these PC-s are still valid!
Recent WinFellow works nicely with plenty of demos and with very very little CPU usage. So WinUAE jumps if/where WinFellow fails.

…except when you are planning to run new PC games.

I can attest to that! I don't give a toss about 99% of modern PC games these days, but when Doom came out last year, that was an expensive exception, as it is one of my all-time favourite game franchises. But I think it was worth it.
