alienbreed 3d re: a4000 040
hi guys,
i own the cd32 version of alien breed 3d, which runs fine on my a1200 and in winuae, but alas it wont work on my a4000. it works fine upto the point where u press fire to play. after a little load and some game info text, it comes up with the background boarder with health and ammo ect, but no game graphics or sound. any ideas why, i dont believe its anything ive done wrong. also while i'm here breathless wont work either on my a4000, but works on the a1200 and in winuae. any help would greatly relieve one frustrated amiga idiot |

This sounds strange. You can't choose further than 16 colors for a Hires screen in Workbench, while you can on your A1200, and you can't play AB3D, while you can on your A1200!
Are you sure your A4000 is not stuffed? |

I remember having this problem on my a1200, with the original. Wasn't there (the horror!) a patch? Maybe Aminet could help?

thanx for the replies guys.
the a4000 has 2 meg chip and 16 meg fast (4*4 MEG SIMMS) maybe the a4000 is damaged in some way. but i have many other aga and ecs based games that run perfectly well. like gloom delux (original), xtreme racing, fears, skidmarks 1 & 2 and many other games and demos. i just did a format and clean install of os3.0 on both a4000 and winuae (i know they aren't the same. Winuae set as '040 with aga.) winuae pals mode lets me use 256 colours a4000 only 16 colours same pal mode. software installation wise they are identicle cause i used adf copies of my original workbench disks well i can get by as it is, cause there r no other problems with it. i'm just not happy as i could be ill keep looking for patches around the net |

Run some diagnostic stuff, like ShowConfig or SysInfo. That will reveal if you have a limited edition ECS A4000.

its definately an aga 4000, everything tells me so, from sysinfo to aib6.5 and the enscriptions on all the custom chips.
a lot of aga stuff and demos work fine. i know its just a commodore patch or config change, but stuffed if i can find it. well i can patch my 16 colour worbench to 256 colour with a third party patch form aminet and this works fine. its just the slider in prefs/screenmode only goes to 16 |

Boot with no-startup-sequence
I will bet money its something in your startup-sequence that affects your screen mode.
Boot with no startup-sequence and then try it. Have had similar problems in the past with games on my A4000 030 |

im betting its something to do with the hardware config or a jumper missing. this a4000 appears to have been dropped at some stage, box isnt square anymore. But everything else runs as expected.
if i boot with no startupand run only setpatch, problem still occurs. doesnt happen on my a1200 or in winue after you have run setpatch. |
