Post Best way to transfer/unzip WHDload packs to ClassicWB

Hi guys n gals,

I have just finished downloading all the WHDLoad demo packs from http://kgwhd.whdownload.com/
I am wondering how best to get them into the relevant folders on Classic.
I have hooked up my real drive to UAE, mounted it then copied the zips across to my DH1 partition.
I have tried using unarc in dopus to put them in the right folders, but it hangs on a few files then stops, I'm guessing its to do with Win32 truncation???
Basically what I would like to do, is get them in the right folders (0-Z) and unzipped, then have them added to the WHDLoad - Demos launcher in lazy bench.
I think if I have read correctly there is a script to do this included?

HELP!

Cheers EAB'ers

Why not just unzip them in Windows and mount a folder to where the unarchived files are then copy them with DOpus.

Easiest way I can think of.

There's about 10 out of the entire pack that need unzipping on the amiga side.

As everyone said, most will unzip in Windows - I think I used Total Commander to organize everything then mounted a PC directory containing the unzipped files. When you come across a game that doesn't work, just re-do it manually on the Amiga (or from within WinUAE).

If you're hooking the drive up to WinUAE, you can also just mount a PC directory containing all the zips as DH2:/DH3:/PC: or whatever, but don't copy them over as they have too long file names for the Amiga's FFS (become truncated as you have found out).

Then enter Dopus, select all the "A" zips on the left hand side, select the "Games/A" drawer on the right, and click unarc.

It should have no problems as long as the zip names contain the extension at the end and are not truncated, which they shouldn't be when mounted and accessed from a WinUAE mounted directory.

Best of luck!

Many thanks Bloodwych.

I'll give that a go at home tonight mate.

Am I right in saying there is a script to add the demos to the lazybench launcher?

Thanks

What he's saying (if i'm not mistaken) is to take all the game zip files and add then into one huge zip file with zero compression i.e. when you create the zip in winzip or winrar or 7zip, use the "store" or "none" compression ratio.

Then he seems to infer that you can mount this big zip as a hard drive in winuae??
I didn't know that. Nice one.

Exactly (of course you can use normal compressed archive but it would be quite pointless..)

You can also drag and drop any (archive) file to running emulation window on the fly. No need to use harddrives GUI panel.

Another suggestion (mentioned in another thread...)

I use a program called Total Commander on the PC to unarchive the files to whichever DIR I wish in UAE (thru Windoze Explorer), except any HDF's. It works on a split wondow basis (like DOpus), and it's easy enough to unpack one ZIP/DIR/LZX file from one window to another. You have to d/l a plugin for this (which I can easily upload to the Zone), install it to Total Commander (easily done) and away you go.

If you don't d/l the plugin it won't work at all. It also doesn't drop any of the Amiga file name details, as I've been using it to unpack KG's packs without any problems, and they all seem to work so far!! (Thanks KG for the packs, a damn fine gentleman you are sir!!)

Unpack some of these games with the Total Commander, tell me what's happen when you try to start them.

Well I unzipped all the demos fine now, thanks to BW's advice.
But not much seems to run! (well nothing yet!!!)
I either get a grey screen or a failed message!
As mentioned earlier, I guess a lot of the demos are AGA?
Oh well.

Did you get the script working ok? I forgot to answer your question! The answer is yes there is a script in the files drawer left out on the Workbench.

I think many demos are AGA; you'll have to check for the ones that don't work.
