Golden Axe music is excellent on Amiga (the best of all the version, including Sega original), but I like Megadriver version most:

When i first heard in 1990 was a bit bothered by the fact he used plain chiptune; the Rendition however is very good, albeit faster than the arcade: the map sequence is 1:1 from the game!

I think the Amiga version of the game might actually be the best home port.

I think the best is Mega Drive version. Game is almost 1:1 arcade plus additional level. But Amiga has better music.

I would agree the Amiga version is very short, stupidly short actually and can be beat in about 20 minutes.

Was the additional level in the mega drive version also in the arcade original or was it only on the console?

I wasn't so disappotinted about Amiga Version. Just speed was little bit slow. Maybe we can do better now...

The amiga version is the 1:1 arcade port. The Megadrive is a downgrade version due to the small size cart. Sega engineers had to simplify the tiles because there was no room left. That's why they added the additional level.

Golden Axe amiga team replicated the arcade tiles, and it shows.

The Md version is far to be 1:1 and the SFX are terrible, mainly the scream when the enemies die.

I also prefer the amiga musics more than the MD ones, the C64 music is also impressive, at least for the intro screen .

Haha, Did you have the original or cracked version? I had the trained version with corrupt dwarf graphcis until I installed the boot block because I thought it was a virus :/. Great game for 512k ram

In the sea of bad conversions on the Amiga, Golden Axe deserves a good 7. But it is not exactly a 1: 1 conversion, a bit slow, and the music is too accelerated with percussions exaggerated in rhythm. Just watch a longplay of the arcade and then one of the Amiga to realize it. Let's say that in any case it is in the top 10 of the best ones.

I've always like the C64's music best of the home versions. The Amiga's music is pretty good too, though it feels too fast to me and I don't like the drums much. Megadrive version has good music but is let down by outright terrible sound effects, some of which cut all music playback when they fire.

Space Harrier II suffers from the same problem. Makes the game completely unplayable.

Imo, David Whitaker is the best musician on the Amiga. And that's by a far margin.
Wonderful combination of chiptuney sounds and samples in his tracks.

indeed, Golden Axe C64 has the best music of all version and by far. Shame the game is the most horrible of them in term of conversion.
