How do I use save states when playing from HDF?

I've got a couple of games that don't work properly from their floppy disk files, so I'm using their WHDLoad versions instead. The problem I'm having is that whenever I try to save a game using the savestate function, I get a message telling me my current configuration is not compatible with the savestate function. I've tried using the all configurations supplied with Amiga Forever, along with the extras like AmiKit and AmigaSYS. Is there a particular expansion (and I'm assuming it is an expansion that's preventing saving) I can remove that would make savestating work?

Save states will only work from ADF Files.

Why? There's got to be a way to snapshot the hardware configuration along with the game being played.

Most likely bsdsocket or uaescsi.device.

HDFs are supported but there can be problems unless you are really careful. HDF must be 100% identical when state is loaded or you will get problems or HDF corruption! Save, restore, let game save something, restore again -> bad things can happen, filesystem cache in Amiga RAM has old data but filesystem on HDF has modified data..

Directory harddrives are safer, just do not save while program has file open for writing and if you do, make sure file is exactly same when loading or it can get corrupted when confused program writes to it and it isn't same anymore..

Directories on your Windows hard drive mounted in WinUAE so that they appear as hard drives within the emulation.

So what sort of hardware configuration should I use with a directory harddrive that contains a game requiring WHDLoad?

For best and safe statefile HD compatibility: directory harddrives only, everything except RTG disabled in Expansions panel. No CDs enabled in harddrives panel.

So start a Workbench configuration requiring me to load from Workbench floppies, and mount a directory harddrive once in Workbench?

No, just boot from WB installed on a directory harddrive. It does not need to be floppy (or HDF).

So how do I put WB in a directory harddrive? All I have are ADF images, and they don't have WHDLoad on them.
