Slow Aminet access with FTP client and bsdsocket.ibrary emulation

Hi,

I have tried Gui-FTP to access the Aminet FTP and while browsing the directory structure I noticed it was very slow to fetch the directory contents.

I could see the file names being displayed on the client ui one by one very slowly and after all I had to wait a little more for the program to be ready and I don't know why it is so slow.

I am able to access the Aminet website with IBrowse and the HTTP access speed there is very good if compared to the FTP access.

Before I tried to use FTPMount to access the Aminet FTP but it was worse than with Gui-FTP.

I have tried to use Gui-FTP because it works with Gadtools. I am doing this experiment on AmigaOS 3.1 and WinUAE 4.2.0 but I tried also with WinUAE 4.1.0 and that have happened there too.

I am using an old netbook with WinUAE because my other computer is with keyboard problems. Could that slow FTP browsing be a problem with the speed of my netbook?

Important: I really would like to had attached the WinUAE log, but I could not see any message there about the bsdsocket.library access to the FTP.

I tested AmFTP and with it I can access the Aminet FTP like a dream if compared with the other two programs I tested. So the culprit of the problems I had should be the two programs I was using. Doh!

Sorry for my false bug report! Thanks.

Perhaps it was active mode/passive mode difference? Check options. FTP is strange protocol.
