SIMM 32 MB. Wrong size on Amiga with Blizzard?

I just bought a 32 MB SIMM from e-bay. I installed it on my A1200 with Blizzard 1230/IV and, sigh , Workbench and SYSinfo report the size of 4 MB Fast RAM only!

I tried the 60ns or 70ns jumper on the Blizzard and size is always 4MB.
I used a MemTest utility to check the SIMM and the tool reports no errors.

I asked to the seller and he answered me that the SIMM is composed by "8 RAM x 4 MB = 32 MB". In my opinion he makes a mistake, but could be possible that my Blizzard doesn't detect the right size?

I enclose a picture. My SIMM is those in the right side.

@fc

It's very possible it is a 4MB SIMM, If it's single sided I would say for sure by the picture.

What do the other SIMMS report with your Blizzard. >4MB ?

That picture is useless... it needs to be a close up, in focus so we can read the writing on the tops of the chips and on the SIMMS

Or just tell us what it says.

Are the SIMMS single sided?

I got one SIMM only, those on the right. At the moment I can't report what is written above it, but I'm sure it is single sided.

"8 RAM x 4 MB = 32 MB"

Hmm, 8 x 4 M BIT = 32 M BIT = 4 MByte ?

(Each chip being 1M locations of 4bits wide, 2 chips needed per megabyte, 4 sets of 'em giving a 32bit wide data path as required.)

Yes, this is almost certainly where the confusion arises. I once bought a Tyan Pentium motherboard with "4 x 32MB memory sticks" which turned out to be 4 x 4MB instead.

4MB, 16MB and 64MB sticks are single-sided; 8MB and 32MB sticks are double-sided.

Hi fc.studio,

yes, it could definitely be a 4MB SIMM (in this case, DO tell to the seller and open a PayPal case if needed/worth).

What's written on each memory chip?

I report what is written on the SIMM manufactured by Texas Instruments:

On each memory chip (8x):
TI -70
TMS44400DJ
OCI 4441 DB

On the back side of the SIMM:
TM124BBK32S-70 9448I

@meega
I remember
"B" Upper case means Byte = 8 bit
"b" Lower case means bit
therefore "MB" (what seller wrote) means Mega Byte = 8 x Mega bit

@prowler
Are you really sure 8 and 32 MB sticks have to be ALWAYS Double Sided?
I'm enough sure I had in the past SIMM sticks like these:
4 MB Single Sided
8 MB Single Sided
16 MB Single Side & Double Sided (what I own now)

@Supamax
My payment was euro 5,00 shipping included. It's not a great lost and I'll no open a PayPal case. However I would like the seller confirmed his mistake.

Until now my Blizzard 1230/IV read ALWAYS the correct sizes. But when a SIMM stick doesn't work (with other boards too), it doesn't work 'cause is not detected, it reports errors on memory test tools, or DOES A POSSIBILITY EXIST IT COULD BE DETECTED WITH A WRONG SIZE?

No, I'm not sure that this is ALWAYS the case, but it has been in my experience up to now.
