finding a slient power supply for a towered amiga

Hi all,

I've been experiencing troubles with my A1200/060 Tower (Ateo) those last years. Sometimes it just will not boot, and I have to hit it many times, sometimes fiddle with the boards inside to make it work.

Today, I unplugged the CD-ROM and it worked.

I suspect a defective power supply. I've got an old 230W one, and was considering replacing it by a new one. I'd try to buy a silent one too, which would be even better.

Most of the connector shapes did not change for years, but some of the connectors required by the Ateo Bus (the ones you plug on the motherboard) have changed on the new power supply units, and I was wondering if it was still possible to find silent and old-style (AT) power supplies on the market

thanks

If you cant find a siletn at, you can get a converter from AT- > ATX power supply.

Have you tried a new cdrom drive, I have seen so much trouble with defective cdroms..

those 65W things for nano ITX cases will be ample for most amiga setups i think.

probably not for a towered A1200 with a busboard and cards, though experience tells me that it would do for a desktop 1200 with 040, 3.5" HD, CD and LS120 drive.
For comparison, the A4000 one was, IIRC around 150w, and the A2000 one was 200w

I had 230W for a 68060, a 40GB HD, a DVD drive, an Ateo Bus & Gfx board
If the power went weak (is that possible) during the years, that could explain a lot.

Now that I have unplugged the DVD drive, the miggy boots everytime!

So I think a new, silent, power supply won't be a bad thing. Thanks for all your replies

Do those cases take standard AT/ATX power supplys? If it does then get a decent psu not some cheap thing. Anything made by Chieftec/Antec/FSP Fortran Source/Aopen/Jeantech

All these psus are made by the same place and are heavy in weight and they give out nice clean power with dedicated 12v and 5v lines etc

Its easy to modify an ATX psu, personally i think those ATX to AT converters are over-priced for just a bunch of wires...

If you are comftable with a soldering iron and have a volt/multi meter handy then save yourself a few euro and do it yourself..

If you would like I have documents and images showing what needs to be done... ITS SOOOO EASY
