Amiga 600 was a big financial blow to commodore so I do not like it. I liked most my A1200 and before that A500+

My favorite Amiga model is A1200.
It's the only Amiga to have crystal clear sound (low-pass filter cutoff is above human hearing range). Not to mention that it takes up little space, and offers great file transferring capabilities through PCMCIA and the internal IDE connector. Then comes AGA and the 32-bit design (+ 32-bit chipmem access for better chipmem thruput). I also prefer programming 68020+ over 68000, with all the extra addressing modes, fast bitshift and full 32-bit div/mul instructions. Easy choice. |

It is definitely A1200 as the perfect mix of portability, expandability, and built-in features. Followed by the A500 for sentimental reasons, and A1000 for being the first (but very limited in expandability). Back in the day, I was considering installing A600 motherboard into A1000 case with port extenders to avoid modifying the back panel (this was before 3D printers were commonly available).

With PiStorm32-RPi 4B-Emu68's modern WiFi WPA2 driver, my A1200's RDP (Microsoft's Remote Desktop) is useful as a daily driver e.g. retro AHI 14-bit Paula plays pack RDP's YouTube music.

My favourite in 2024 is the A4000T, always drooled over the pictures in the magazines, but being a kid at the time they were well out of my pocket money league. ( Yes just a case made by PC case manufacturer Enlight, but the ascetics of the case weren't generic PC of the time, more a premium server type cass that even finding something today with a similar assetic is difficult to find. The extra Zorro slots, video slot, SCSI, and more internal space than the A4000 make it shine for me.
My close second is the CD32, love the compactness as it has a smaller footprint than the A600, I love the more contemporary colour scheme, matt grey and red, they look great but only if they *aren't scratched*and been looked after, they don't turn radioactive yellow and stick out like a sore thumb taking up half the desk like certain other models. The downside is expandability, TF360 is a great card but a Pistorm is desperately needed. Last edited by Akiko; 30 April 2024 at 10:57. |
