I'd say, most people who don't have older than 10 years computers can easily run most stuff on Unity as good as UE4 does.

You can debate why 2D games need so much space and power, but then, why shouldn't they if it's there to use and speeds up dev time.

Eek

Oh oh what we have here a kick ass action shooter
with lots of bobs on screen and music that pumps !!!

Awesome !

I would be interested to know more about the sound routines
used here, multiplexing of channels, etc.
There seems to be a lot of black magic included here !

So there's two systems working at the same time.

Sound Effects

Uses Roondar's 4 channel real-time mixing engine, details of which are available here.

[ Show youtube player ]

Music

It's using Leonards Light Speed Player with an additional run-time mixer engine layered on top. The engine renders patterns from a 4 channel mod on demand. The renderer has a some limitations, all samples have to run at the same sample rate but does have volume control. You end up with effectively 6 channels of music.

It's basically the same engine used in the demo Eon, with some minor changes to allow use of sample offsets.

always strange watching you on twitch, esp your gaggle of custom made tools/utils and the stuff you do with protracker, i keep thinking, why dont you just redo your own variant of protracker so all your features are the standard/norm.

Plenty of other people have redone soundtracker/protracker and trying to get more channels is kinda like octamed but you obviously want it more protracker'alike, your coding a hell of a lot of other stuff as it is, you might as well just go all-in and make a better/faster multi channel protracker.

considering he is a long time musician and a coder, i thought it was a pretty valid comment given this kinda stuff is his what he does best and has spent a lot of time on.

Oddly enough making a tracker is probably harder than making an Amiga game but I get your point. Making the music for this has been a royal pain in the ass, switching between two protracker modules, rendering the loops, loading them back in, more editing, but needs must. I had a lot of this stuff already pre-built so seemed like a sensible choice considering how close to completion I am.

That said... I have already planned out all the features I would require from a new Amiga targeted tracker and considering how that kind of project might get started (looks at the pile of other projects which need completing first!). So yeah, maybe it's in the pipeline.

NOTE: PLEASE do not start a long conversation about what features you want in a tracker. I am not listening

Maybe 8bitbubsy would be interested to work with you on it? Maybe he could even start while you finish other things? Just an idea

its sometimes mind boggling watching you on stream swapping from 1 thing to the next as you explain your witchcraft to the viewers, im amazed you remember wth your doing, or maybe youve done it so many times your just blasting thru the processes on autopilot.

Either way its an interesting set of VOD's ive had to catch up on.
