Bogus screen shots on game boxes?

some publishers were manipulative with screen shots on the back of game boxes. i can understand why but how rampant was the practice with AMIGA games? in some cases, i believe, they simply transposed a coin up screen shot. now with the special case of Airborne Ranger , i can't seem to identify the origin of the screen shots. you can take a look at the boxscan yourselves here:

http://hol.abime.net/3221

i don't know what arctic mission they were on cause i've never seen that kind of detail

in reference to the Airborne Ranger boxscan, i don't think i've encountered a mission when the airstrip was obstructed by either bobwire or an airplane hanger. very silly!

Bitmaps did this too..

Gods - boxscan showing some early version pics - http://hol.abime.net/2754/boxscan
Chaos Engine - manual shot 1 showing some early version pics - http://hol.abime.net/2985/miscshot

I'm sure today's companies have been found doing similar, they whack cgi rendered footage into an advert and make kids think its the ps2 lol.

Sometimes the design of the box with all the stuff printed on it must be created long before the final game is completed. Other times some parts of the game are taken out just before the premiere. I think that such shots should be preserved and I have a suggestion about creating on HOL another category for previews and demos. I began a suitable thread. Some information and shots might be really interesting.

And what is wrong with thiat screenshot? It looks like the normal 1p game

BTW - Super Putty boxscan includes the screenshot from SNES version (up left), nothing similar was used in any Amiga version.

nope: that track, with a row of winning posts and the gas station sign on the left, don't exists and if you check the position counter in screenshots 1, 2 and 7 (reading from left to right), it's different from the one of the released version (the other screenshots).
i don't know if the 2 first screeshots are from an early version or from a demo or a conversion.

Maybe this is not a bogus shot on the box but I found something strange in the review of Formula One Grand Prix. Check this. Where does the picture come from (that one with the commentator)?

Notice the first screenshot on the back of the box.
Early design I guess.

Don't link directly to popup scans on AMR - they will not work. Link to the actual review like so: http://amr.abime.net/review_292

Sorry. So, back to my question (it is on the third page of the review), anyone knows what is this? Is it in the game? I haven't noticed.

Chase HQ had a few disingenuous screenshots on the box, helicopters for one that never appeared in the final game.

I remember that the box of the Amiga version of Space Quest IV had screenshots of the PC VGA version. I was stupid enough to fall for it, although as you can see the captions were honest.
