@TCD

It might still be a bit confusing, but could you move some files around?

and finally

Database v11 for ADFW v2015/

Database v12/
> Rename to
Database v12 for ADFW v202x/

Could you tell me how the option "Renaming" works in ADF-Workshop?

I thought it was a good idea to integrate it into ADF-Workshop, but I've changed my mind.
The implementation is partial and it's quite possible that in the future I'll remove this feature that I don't use myself.

From memory, only the "Global options/Renaming/Destination" option can be activated (and is functional).
When you use the "Convert/fix a file..." or "Batch processing..." function, if the file is known to TOSEC, the destination file will bear the name given by TOSEC instead of the name of the source file.

Example:
If I want to convert the DMS file "DEUTFIX1.DMS" to ADF, I normally obtain the file "DEUTFIX1.adf".
With the "Destination" option activated, you'll get the file "Deuteros - The Next Millennium v1 (1991)(Activision)(M3)(Disk 1 of 2)[cr SR][f AGA Access].adf".

Hi,
I use ADF-Workshop with the databases downloaded from FTP server to analyse my large collection of "backup" disks dumps. It's a great tool! I have a question though.
I understand this section of ADF-W output:

Code:
TOP 5 based on track and cylinder identification :
             1) 84.6% [3FAC56CE] Amiga Fun 90-08 (1990-07)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[a startup-sequence][Trade Travel Fight]

                                  amiga_fun_ttf_german
             5) 81.7% [CE206CED] Amiga Fun 90-08 (1990-07)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[Trade Travel Fight][CE206CED][PENDING]

but I don't understand this part (which is displayed for some files, but not for all):

Code:
CRC32 based identification :
   +-Common disk
   | |_DOSCopy_________[7690D734] amiga_fun_90-08_trade_travel_fight
   |_BAMCopy
     |_DOSCopy________*[555C38B4] Amiga Fun 90-08 (1990-07)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[m doscopy][Trade Travel Fight][555C38B4][ALT]
                                  Commercial CD - Amiga Games CD-ROM & Mag Extra 2-95 - SPIELE - VOLLVERSIONEN - ttf
                       [66CBC598] Amiga Fun 90-08 (1990-07)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[Trade Travel Fight]
Are there two disk images in the loaded databases, named:
1. "Amiga Fun 90-08 (1990-07)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[m doscopy][Trade Travel Fight][555C38B4][ALT]", and
2. "Commercial CD - Amiga Games CD-ROM & Mag Extra 2-95 - SPIELE - VOLLVERSIONEN - ttf"
which have the same CRC32 (555C38B4) which is equal to my disk's CRC32?

What does the "+-Common disk" and BAMCopy-_DOSCopy tree structure mean in this example?

Why are there filenames with [7690D734] and [66CBC598] in the tree, which are not listed in the "Top 5" section?

BTW. there are 6 files listed in "Top 5" :-)

Hi,
I'll try to explain the results you get and for that, I'll use your example:
Code:
File selected : MyDisk.adf
File size : 901.120 bytes
CRC32 : $555C38B4
File loaded as an ADF : AmigaDOS OFS

CRC32 based identification :
   +-Common disk
   | |_DOSCopy_________[7690D734] Contributions - curtcool - 2021-06-29 - LPN - amiga_fun_90-08_trade_travel_fight
   |_BAMCopy
     |_DOSCopy________*[555C38B4] Amiga Fun 90-08 (1990-07)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[m doscopy][Trade Travel Fight][555C38B4][ALT]
                                  Commercial CD - Amiga Games CD-ROM & Mag Extra 2-95 - SPIELE - VOLLVERSIONEN - ttf
                       [66CBC598] Amiga Fun 90-08 (1990-07)(CompuTec Verlag)(DE)[Trade Travel Fight]
If the CRC32 of the disk or a close relative is already known, then you will have a "CRC32 based identification"

According to the identification tree, disk 555C38B4 is bamcopy and doscopy.

There are several forms of bamcopy, but for ADFW, it indicates that the free sectors are empty ($00) and that a similar disk exists in the database whose free sectors are not empty [7690D734]. The deletion of free sectors is generally due to disk compression using DMS without the NOZERO option.

doscopy indicates that the disk has been duplicated using the Diskcopy tool. This program faithfully copies the data from the source disk, but modifies the disk's dates by indicating the current date. So, the source and destination disks are not identical, but ADFW can make the link with the original disk or other copies made at other times [66CBC598].

The identification tree is relatively complete (complex?) to take into account a large number of combined alterations :
Code:
CRC32 based identification :
   +-Common disk______*[932C12EF] ForTestOnly
   | |_Underdump_______[3435E3B2] ForTestOnly[u]
   | |_Overdump________[2E31A0F4] ForTestOnly[o]

TOP x indicates the level of similarity between your disk and all the other disks in the database, with the result given as a percentage. This automatically excludes disks found in "CRC32 based identification".
As there are always special cases, it is possible to deactivate certain analyses in "Global options/ADF analyze" :
- CRC32 based (switch ON/OFF)
- Cylinders similarity (switch ON/OFF)
- Track similarity (switch ON/OFF)
- Detection threshold
- Number of elements to display
- Display only the TOSEC name if other entries for the same disk exist in the database

Does that answer your questions?
