Bought an A600 - recommended UPGRADES?
Just bought one on eBay, £89.
Already bought a recap set which I'll do myself. It also needs a little retrobrite. I already have an expanded A1200 (28mhz 030, 64mb RAM) in a new transparent case with a 16GB CF HDD full of games etc, no floppy drive. This is my main fun Amiga. The A600 will be my second machine. I've never had a 600 before and the size is ideal. I'll keep the disk drive, will install a CF HDD, won't bother with an accelerator due to £100+ (at least) cost. For WHDLoad do I need a memory upgrade? How much (1MB / more?). Do those £50 8mb CPU socket upgrades work in an A600? I had one in an A500 and A2000 previously. (....just had a response and apparently they don't fit) Last edited by CDTV1991; 08 July 2019 at 23:55. |

Retro ready do the fast ram instead of Furia if still in stock.
Cheaper alternative to Furia. But both a good option. |

Well as it was my birthday, I've bought myself a Furia 600, revised version.
It will make a very nice little machine. My Amiga nostalgia is in the all-in-ones, rather than the big box machines, so I'm quite excited to get it running after its clean up and restoration So I'll have a speed boost that's greater than my transparent A1200 with its ACA1230/28mhz. I will also get an IDE adapter that allows a CF card to be routed through to the side, above the PCMCIA slot. This works very well in my A1200. For the 600, I will avoid the pre-built packs like ClassicWB, which works brilliantly on my A1200, but I want something different for this one. Also I am thinking about getting kickstart/workbench 3.1.4 So the supposed "budget" is totally blown, but my recent Amiga projects go that way! Definitely could not justify something like a Vampire though and that wouldn't do the job in terms of nostalgia. For me the Amiga is old, specifically 1992, so I can accept it being so and I can get my fun from that. I have plenty of good display options, from a clone 1081 CRT monitor, a 14" CRT TV/VCR which puts out a lovely picture, a BENQ BL702 and a Dell U2410, all Amiga compatible. |

Plenty to read through on that @AmigaDudeA600 Facebook page
Just bought an IDE/CF adapter from RetroReady One. Am I right in thinking that that's Luk from Amiga Ireland podcast's shop? If so, then as that's the best Amiga Podcast then I'm more than happy than buying from them. |

Congrats on that 40mhz Furia, sounds awesome! The specs look really tempting.
Is there a hope for a Terrible Fire 030 for a 600 in the near future? Or is the revised Furia the only current fastest A600 accelerator option? |

The Furia accelerator will have 9.5MB RAM
Is there any benefit in buying a 1MB Chip RAM expansion for the trapdoor slot? |

Yes, we do stock A6095 9,5MB Fast Ram cards. 4MB is a suggested amount of RAM for WHDLoad. 9,5MB is plenty. Quote:
Yes, that is the same Luke from Amiga Ireland Podcast. Additional 1MB Chip memory will be very useful with WHDLoad games as well and demos as some of them require more that the usual 1MB Chip that is onboard with Amiga 600. Amiga 1200 has got 2MB Chip Ram already onboard. |

AmigaKit 1MB chip ramp expansion fitted
AmigaKit 3.1 ROM fitted RetroReady CF card adapter fitted (routed to side above the PCMCIA) RetroReady A600 cover bought (very nice) Rev 2 Furia on its way..... After getting all that set up I'm considering a USB keyboard adapter, a USB joystick and mouse adapter for wireless USB mouse, keyboard and controller fun. This may become my "console" Amiga connected up to the projector, which almost exclusively serves my two boy's Minecraft screen. With this outlay, I could have bought a full console set up, but that's certainly not the point of this hobby! And I'm making my own custom joystick In my original Amiga days I used to think that the A600 was a hateful piece of the Devil's work. Now I have one, under the intense glow of nostalgia I think it's a tiny masterpiece. In the past 10 years I've bought and sold several eBay A500s, an A2000 and even several CDTVs. However hard I try I cannot get a CDTV set up for under £300 now, that's my only Amiga regret. Will never sell my 030 A1200 in its new transparent case with "subtle" remote controlled lighting though. Last edited by CDTV1991; 31 July 2019 at 00:21. |
