ClassicWB Tutorial Video - Using extra partitions for Games & Demos
I've had a quick go at an experimental tutorial video as I'm always seeing people not using the ClassicWB correctly when running Games and Demos from a second partition (eg using DH1: for these drawers instead of the default System partition DH0: ).
No commentary yet, just video and music. I intended to add commentary, hence the slower pace of the mouse pointer, but I can't be arsed at the moment. You'll have to do with some daXX Bloodmoney goodness! [ Show youtube player ] The video shows you how to:
Hopefully this will be the first of many tutorial vids! Last edited by Bloodwych; 19 April 2009 at 17:21. |

Hi Bloodwych,
Please don't start a trend which leads to all documentation being provided in video format. Video may well be the ideal format for those who never read instructions, but it should be seen as supplementary to existing documentation and not a replacement for it IMHO. Or I can see a time coming when video does for broadband what flash did for dial-up. This observation is not meant to be critical in any way. I'm sure your videos will be very well done once you get the hang of it and, as a result, indispensible for those who prefer this medium. But there will always be those of us who prefer written instructions with screenshots. prowler |

No chance of that prowler - videos are far harder to do than good old written instructions. I just wanted to make use of my shiney new Intel Quad core!
They do have a place however - I get loads of people asking or wanting to move Games and Demos to different partitions, but don't update the startup files correctly. This video helps in that regards. I intend to combine it with a written tutorial page on the main website in the future, with embedded video AND screen grabs and text. |

where the video go ?
just when I think i was been spoiled with 2 amiga videos in one day..leytonds and Bloodwychs ony to find This video has been removed by the user lets hope its not for to long and I know what you are saying prowler about video as documentation but I see this as bloodwychs continued support for his users and after all some of them never read the first few lines of the manual find it funny how I`ve only just suggested leytond to make a similar video... thats is if one has`t already been made of course .... which i asume it hasn`t ..... |

Cosmic Frog - It's back now, I had to re-upload it so the HQ option will eventually appear.

I also think that a video should only be an addition to a written document, but it's really helpful if you only want to do a 'FA' thing So thumbsup for the tutorial vid Bloodwych
P.S. : Also like the music P.P.S : Still no HD option |

Yeah I realize it's a little hard to watch - as I said in the opening post, I meant to add comments but couldn't be bothered in the end. I will eventually though, even if it's just using Youtubes standard text box editor, annotations thingy or whatever.
The Bloodmoney track is meant to combat the zzzzzzzzz. I see you were still fighting it! But, if you want to move your Games and Demos drawers properly, I'm sure the slow pace will help prevent people having to pause the vid all the time. Plus they have the option of skipping. http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/features.htm Anyone watch the last few seconds of the above video on the main website. I ended it using good old "Say". why not have a single user partition file ? and reference to it from other files ? so that we don't have to edit every single boot option when we change something ? (I'm sure you'd thought of this, but )

You're right coze; the current system sort of grew as I worked on all the different versions and hasn't been consolodated yet into a neater solution. Earlier versions used to only have the assigns in the user-startup file, nowhere else.
The startup files do need combining now with a single partition startup-sequence, and it is something I was thinking about doing for the next release. |

I think video tutorials are fantastic and the future for certain things!
Sometimes written word is not always interpreted the same by all people, where-as with a good video with commentry it is (for me) much easier to understand and follow! |

Hold the right (or left for RAD mouse button on boot:
http://classicwb.abime.net/classicweb/multiboot.htm It allows games to be launched using full system resources. |
