This would have been the perfect AmiWest announcement.

As it is OCS/ECS/AGA/P96 users need a loadmodule/reboot and to buy new ROMs if Cybergraphx ever gets an update.

The other way around, the people using CGX, surely the minority considering PCI boards all seem to use P96 and very few RTG boards are CGX only, would just need a loadmodule/reboot until it was fixed and nobody needs to buy ROMs twice.

I doubt I buy a physical ROM since I'll have to burn a custom one with the good library added or wait to pay twice if CGX ever gets an update.

IMHO one of the biggest features beyond supporting 68k development is getting rid of that 3.9 reboot and I can already burn a ROM for that.

Successfully have my Amithlon system booting off the 3.1.4 kickstart and running the 3.1.4 workbench. Was a bit of work but I'm curious how it compares to OS 3.9 when speed/memory isn't really an issue but real hardware still is (Amithlon supported HW vs. WinUAE virtual HW).

Bought and downloaded.
Unfortunately I can't start to play with it yet. ;-(
Well, I mean I could, but not if I expect to wake up for work tomorrow (and I'm too old for the "stay up all night and still go to work" thing..).

Oh well...

Now, a challenge:
Who is going to design some nice floppy labels so when we write this to actual floppies, we have nice labels? ;-)
(Yes, I still have empty floppies waiting for something special. This is it. ;-)

p.s. Someone needs to get Dan Wood to get this and make a video.
I was just watching more of his videos and so it popped into my head. And/or any of you other people who make youtube vids! (I feel like I am rambling, but it's cool to feel excited about new stuff for my Amiga again! )

I am working on a video for it for 10 Minute Amiga Retro Cast - It will probably be longer than 10 minutes again... I am having some issues with it with my hardware I am trying to resolve. Is there a thread for troubleshooting OS 3.1.4 that I have missed?

@gulliver
So you're saying that the money people pay for OS 3.1.4 does not go to the developers or anyone involved with 3.1.4, but instead goes to straight to Hyperion?

Not tooting my own horn...

I did stream myself installing Amiga OS 3.1.4 on my 1200 last night, took about 4 hours in the end (because I made a few mistakes), but it's there, and I went through all the new features I could find.

https://www.twitch.tv/videos/317112244

About 19-20 minutes when I start messing around with partitioning.
About 1hr 03 minutes in when it boots
About 1hr 07 minutes for the installer
About 1hr 45 minutes in for a proper boot, configuring Startup-Sequence for blizkick.
Rest of the video is installing various tools, configuring, showing of the new A1200 case, and internals, and general Amiga chit-chat, etc.

Too long didn't watch? First Boot after Installing.

Does the 3000 version work on a 3000T or 3500?

For the intuition library, why don't you just ask which one the user wants installed and copy the correct one without the user having to do the fiddling afterwards? It could be as simple as asking if the user is using a Cybergraphics card or not.

Very nice to hear that. So could you please tell me, which package did you bought for that? Is it the A4000?

I would like to update my Amithlon-System also...

compiler) has been lost in oblivion for decades. So we tried to
contact him, to help him use a cleaner method and rework/update CGX.
But he seems either busy or not willing.

So anyway, we rewrote intuition.library V45 to work with a standard
compiler, we added fixes and new features, but cannot integrate it in
rom because we will loose CGX support, which means that some graphic
cards will not work with the OS anymore.

So the solution is not ideal, but it was the only one we had.
But this is a binary-only-distribution (for now). You could have included two versions of the kickstart to choose (for burning or softkickking), one for the majority of users (no CGX, like me) and one for the rest with CGX.

So the majority has the hassle to try to build a new ROM with the lib included

It should work fine in both. They are not that different in function to the A3000D.

The A500/A600/A2000 package. Amithlon was originally built from a modified A2000 kickstart I believe.

Hi, is it recommended in 3.1.4 to use utilities like fblit, FText and NewWPA8, or is their functionality incorporated? And what for a Find program do you recommend to use after vanilla installation?

Big thanks to the entire development team!

Great news. Can’t wait to buy this when the physical ROM package is available.

The main feature I am excited about is the large disk support working out of the box. I’ve lost countless hours trying to get >4GB disks working in OS3.1.

Stupid question, but how does the OS3.14 file system compare to something like PSF3AIO? Is there still a need for PSF3AIO?

the company still exists and they still provide 68k-compilers:

Really? Yes, it's a great feature to have that functionality available from cold boot, but there have been easy and well documented work-arounds available for this issue for decades now.

It depends on what you're looking for. Due to the FFS design, it can be quite slow but also quite robust. PFS and SFS will most likely be much faster still, but the update means that you can use the built-in filesystem for any size of hard drive without needing to patch or replace it, which eliminates a layer of complexity from the process.

The Green Hills 'C' compiler is not exactly lost The compiler and its component parts need a vintage 1980'ies Sun 2/Sun 3 workstation to run. This is the major technical constraint which prevents its use (aside from the licensing issue, but let's not go there).
