A4000D cf card adapter and cdrom
Anyone know how to make a IDE to CF adapter working togehter with a cdrom? Have a 8GB Sandisk Ulra II and a IDE cd-rom.
I have OS3.1 installed and Kickstart 3.1. When I install IDEFix97 the installation hangs when it tries to mount the cdrom. Someone sayed that IDEFix have problems with CF cards, but I haven't found any solution yet. Would be happy if anyone know how to configure this. Thanks |

Can't get it to work, in the installation of idefix it hangs when trying to find the cdrom, I can still move the mouse..
Should I apply the patch to the installations disk? Then install? Or after the installations? There comes the problem, because after the installation workbench wont boot up because it adds idefix to the Startup-Sequence.. Any good howto out there? |

I have the CF mounted on the internal IDE port. I have SCSI for my harddrives and CD-ROM. There are no hang issues with this arrangement. I have read that in some cases the CD card and peripherals can have a conflict if you try to mount them on the internal IDE port.

okej, I have it on the internal IDE. Anyone here have CF-card + cdrom working together on the Internal IDE?
or Do I need some IDE interface? If yes should this works?: http://www.ggsdata.se/Datorer/buddha.php And is it worth 63 euro? Last edited by heALer; 23 November 2010 at 12:35. |

Hi heALer,
I think your problem may be caused by the CF-IDE adapter you are using. Some adapters seem to prevent other devices from occupying the same channel, whether configured as Master or Slave, even when designed to accept only the one card. If this is the case, you may solve the problem either by trying another adapter or by using an IDE splitter to derive primary and secondary channels from your IDE controller and separating the conflicting devices. |

@heALer, the Buddha is ideal and is what I use on my A4000. I have CF card on the IDE that connects directly to the IDE header and I have the Buddha running my DVDRW.
But... €63 seems a bit high, I paid about £20 for mine but it was a mates rate from a fellow board member Lord Cosmic of Frog. Steve. |

You have to make a new installation-disk with the patched idefix. Note that the patched idefix must be used with the ide-fix97 archive from aminet. So to sum it up: 1.Download idefix97 and idefix-patch from aminet. 2.Download idefix final update from individual computers. 3. Apply the idefix-patch to the idefix final update. 4.Replace the idefix-command in the idefix97 archive with the patched idefix command. 5.If all went well, you now can install idefix97, andf it will find your CD-ROM. I never got this to work and I tried the patched IDEFix and AsimCDFS on the internal IDE of the A4000.
In the end I ended up using FastATA4000, and it worked, with the CF and the CDROM on separate channels. |

It's not working with the patch either, it hangs in the same way as before, so I guess I need to buy an IDE controller card, maybe a buddha flash.
Anyone know a cheap card that works? |

The patched version should be 119.19 (type 'version <path>:idefix' in a shell window. |

Guess it doesn't work for cf-cards which are connected to the a4000 MB IDE. You also could use scsi.device from os3.9. It doesn't suffer from this problem. |

Hi again.
Still not got it to work. But I have a question about this CF card I have, its a "Sandisk Ultra II Compact Flash 15 MB/s 8GB" If I understand right the problem is that the CF card is recognized as removable device. But how do I make it Fixed? I tried to use atcfwchg.com on a PC, booting with a floppy with the file on, and typed atcfwchg /p /f But I got Error #7, Is this card to new or to old for that tool? The serial number of the card: BI090812902B I was thinking of getting a Buddha Flash card, but I think I still will have the same problem with that, because it's removable? |

Before you make assumptions about the CF card you should try it without the CD drive and without IDE-fix/max.
The Buddha is Zorro2 only which limits it to not much higher speed than the internal IDE controller. You should consider a FastATA 4000 instead, it's Zorro3 and should be a bit faster. |
