There can never be an objective comparison. One game is a platform shooter, the other is an open-world sidescrolling beat-em-up with adventure elements.
Even so my vote goes to SOTB. Turrican II clearly plays better, Shadow of the Beast is closer to my heart as an artist. It has better atmosphere, art, and music, and for me it's something that can often trump gameplay. It certainly does in this case.

Yup. Turrican 2 has gameplay and awesome music and nice graphics.

Sotb has amazing graphics, music and an extremely atmospheric and wonderfully realised world. I love both but Sotb has a special place in my heart too.

Shadow of the Beast has very poor gameplay paired with great presentation. As a game it pretty much fails. Turrican 2 has good graphics and sound, but mainly it's focused on gameplay. Comparing the two is really like comparing apples and pears, so I guess Vot was asking if you are serious about comparing two really different 'games' if you look more closely.

This is like comparing crap shoot'm ups such as Agony and Project X to Apidya. Makes no sense.

Why because i think these kinds of questions usually just end up flame wars, each side picks which one they like and cant see the others point of view. They are both very different styles of game and in my opinion you cant directly compare them.. And I really question if you thought would gather any useful insites... Its like asking what is your most favorite song or music.... I depends what mood I'm in.....

I personally love both of these games (well sotb 3 and turrican 2)... And lastly both exist so I don't have to pick!

I honestly can't believe people voted for SOTB. Turrican 2 is quite possibly the best game ever made for the Amiga.

I'm one of those who actually liked Shadow of the Beast and played it to death when it came out, but there's no comparison between the two. Turrican 2 is clearly the better game.

@isamu: also you haven't exactly defined what you mean by "better".
Graphically? Two different styles, fantasy vs sci-fi.
Technically of course SotB is better with all it's extra layers in the background but T2 isn't that bad either.
Sounds are shitty in SotB and we've got voice-samples in T2, music is pretty awesome in both games.
Gameplay - SotB is lightyears behind T2.

I voted for T2 because gamplay wise SotB is more like Loderunner compared to Turrican.
The Artwork is equal if not better in Turrican, away from the cool paralax effects in SotB.

Edit: Yes its true I like cool suits of armor...

I prefer sotb also the poll will win t2 hands down as theres more turrican fans here. Best to post the poll in a multi platform forum. Also the the two games really are'nt something to be compaired, they are so different and good games in their own respect.

The gameplay in SOTB is almost non-existant, yes it looks good (in my opinion certainly not as good as T2) but that's the only positive thing I have to say about that "game".

I prefer the graphics in SOTB (2 in particular) which ooze atmosphere and style... but Turrican 2 has the better gameplay so has that longevity factor.
