Insert disk into drive, select its icon and choose "format disk" from the menu. It always does a "deep sector format" and checks if the disk is not bad. Format does not complete if there are bad sectors.

Or you could try X-Copy.

MyFormat is a nice replacement for sys:system/format if you want added features (like automatic start, etc)
X-Copy is .. ok I guess .. if you for some reason don't want to do anything else while formatting. |

Also Bad format (from Aminet) is a good tool: it marks the bad sectors and make a drive working, even if it have bad sectors.

I didn't know it was possible for floppies, too (I thought it was for HDDs only, on Amiga). Quote:

@Supamax,
BFormat V4.0 - Format Bad disks http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/BFormat4 "Formats disks that have media (or hard) errors on them and allocates them as used, making the rest of the disk usable. Now supports FFS, OFS and most devices, including hard-drives. Slower than version 2.0, but more comprehensive." |

Ah, MyFormat does that too, but what's the point. Media with errors should be thrown in the bin.

It is likely he's just after a way to get his Amiga going with his harddisk again, which has bad sectors. Prowler's suggestion could be a working choice, if he has some way of getting the software to his Amigas.
I agree with Jope that media with SURFACE errors should be thrown out. Keeping them is just waiting for more errors. At the same time 'Amiga-spacesize' harddisks are hard to come by new. Better to send all harddisks to hell and go to flash based disks. <butts out> |

I prefer (for some odd reason) to keep my 40 and 80Gb HD on the A1200s and 18Gb in A2000...
