Amiga a1200

Ok i am currently trying to get into the amiga scene and make some music with it. I was wondering where i could get ahold of one of these fine pieces of machinary.

Im also looking for Ultimate Soundtracker for it. and any other trackers that would be for an amiga.

Welcome to EAB

If you want to get hold of an Amiga, then Ebay is your friend here... you'll find plenty on there. Try and get hold of an A1200 if you can, preferably with a hard drive and some sort of memory expansion as this will probably be your best bet. Also you could try the Marketplace sub-forum here on EAB.

As for trackers, I'm no expert on the subject but you could always try Aminet for starters... however there are plenty of people on here who are far more knowledgeable on this subject then I am

Oh yeah, the thread title is a giveaway isn't it?

It's not against regulations at all, check this subforum: http://eab.abime.net/forumdisplay.php?f=25

@massimo

hello there,

Welcome to the EAB, theres plenty of mischief to get up to around here

the EAB has a "market place" forum for you to request anything really.... not sure what you might get from some of the members here

other opportunities such like the up and coming www.amibay.co.uk

failing that there is always ebay which will set you back around $60 not including postage. the problem with ebay, you just dont know what you really are buying. so there is

www.amigakit.com although a little more expensive, they have a first rate service and waranty on the products they sell. I only have great things to say about amigakit to be honest.

Octamed Sound Studio is a fantastic tracker and music studio for the Amiga. it is free to download from here. http://www.medsoundstudio.com/

i hope that helps.

by far the simplest would be to use a hard disk drive

If you have a hard disk in your a1200, you could use WinUAE to assist you, there are some guides on how to do this, have a brief search.

I don't want to discourage someone from having the true Amiga experience if that's what they are after.. I, myself, went out to buy several old machines that were already emulated very well, once upon a time. I had to find ways to transfer data to them (usually null-modem) which was cool, as I've always like checking out term programs, etc. The experience of what these machines were like was also very entertaining. But I was after that experience, not just making music. If you are looking to use real Amiga sound hardware (digitizer, MIDI, something like that) disregard the rest of this post.

With that in mind, you might want to consider buying a ROM from Cloanto and using WinUAE. I think it would make things much easier, not to mention cheaper. It wouldn't be like musicians did at the time, dealing with more restraints, etc. but you could jump right in a whole lot easier.

If WinUAE weren't as good as it is, I might not have this suggestion because of incompatibility. But, I think everyone here would agree that WinUAE is absolutely fantastic, and you wouldn't have any trouble making mods with it.

Im not really 100 percent sure what i want at the moment, i know that having an amiga would be awesome, and absolutly original around here. Im just looking for something fresh. Also im not really quite sure how hard or easy it would be to get the software onto the amiga, im not that good at computers haha. would it be possible for some one to put it on a floppy for me and i pay them for there trouble?

I certainly dont recommend using an emulator for music making purposes.

As for getting the files onto the Amiga, Workbench 2.1+ includes CrossDos which allows you to read PC disks as if they are amiga disks.

Zetr0 mentioned octamed soundstudio, which i would say is definately the best tracker out there. however, rather than the official "download after signing maillist" that he linked to... use aminet:

http://aminet.net/package/mus/edit/OctamedSS1.03c

and Braddo is quite right, music production on winuae (or any uae) is not recommended.

The key-response times are poor, forcing you to manually program everything, you can get fluctuation in speed just through a change in the number of channels playing, and it simply isnt accurate enough (BPMs can even be different between emulator and real hardware) to do the job comfortably.

shame really.

you liked octamed SS on the PC Zetr0????

i even registered that piece of junk.... what a waste imho. unstable and just generally useless. Even the MIDI syncronisation was as bad as using winuae to emualted the amiga MIDI output !

It just wasnt designed to be "plunked" unto windows if you ask me.
