Deneb USB Question

If a buy a Deneb, can I remove my compact flash to IDE adapter?
I mean, does Deneb boots from the start making Amiga not need anymore A-N-Y IDE connected?
If the answer is yes - I have no way to do anything in Amiga, no IDE and no floppy drive, so everything will have to be done with winuae - is it possible to make deneb usb work in Amiga via uae (workbench with possible deneb drivers) ?

I passed my weekend trying to format a cf card and then a 4gb fujitsu - ALL frustastion.

My Amiga 4000 has a buster 9 rev, kick 3.1 rom and a4000 040 3.0 accelerator.

Tks in advance.

Yes, you can boot from usb drives. Just put poseidon into the flash rom.

Yes but you'll probably want to put the patch noide into Deneb's flashROM to overcome the boot delay associated with having nothing connected to the IDE.

What? Took me 5 seconds to get my 1Gig CF card prep'd and quick formatted with FFS and only a few minutes to install WB3.1 using WinUAE. The card transferred to my Amiga and worked first time. The only thing I needed to change was the MAX TRANSFER SIZE in HDToolbox to avoid corruption. (Well documented CF card limitation)

Ask Michael Boehmer of E3B about compatibility. I think that rev9 buster + A3640 3.0 might introduce some Zorro III issues which *MIGHT* affect Deneb.

But to put poseidon in the flash rom, I have to do that in Amiga, right? - Or the flash rom will be in the USB disk?

Well, probably I will have to ask the vendor to put the Poseidon in Deneb. I think my hd is working bad and the compact flash refuses to work now. Spending for 30€ for another flash that can work or not is more crazy than buy a deneb without sure it will boot.

Tks for helping

If you have a FIXED (i.e. non removable) CF card and an IDE->CF adapter I am sure I can talk you through the steps to get a working WB3.1 system whereby you can transfer files from the PC to the Amiga using WinUAE or ADFView.

For me the MAX TRANS was the main problem. With it set wrong everything SEEMS to work and you slowly get CRC error corruption. You need to set it to 128 sectors (0x1fe00) to get it to work well.

Thats very good, so I just plug a USB disk with workbench etc and thats it
Right?

I have a cf samdisk 4gb - it never works well, but it was possible. Then made a fresh install this weekend. I tried EVERYTHING: all the masks, sfs, disable usb 2.0, change usb properties for perfomance, changed uae configuration for compatibility, slow ram, etc, etc, etc - 15 hours.
Same errors... disk validation - Then I pick a 4gb fugitsu, works more or less ok, but in Amiga says 'not a dos disk'. So I tried to make a usb disk workbench in uae and it works great. no errors. I think if deneb starts the usb disk without anything, thats G-R-E-A-T. Got to buy one really quick.

I read in vesalia deneb notes that the card is compatible with buster 9 and 11.

Thanks for the Help.

Changingh the mask and maxtranfers worked a bit better (with 1x1fe was the best) but sooner or later same pertubing disk validation errors.
I use a very light OS3.9
I tried with Rom Updates, and without, last winuae, winuae 1.4.4 (worked before), winuae 1.4.0, etc. - I think the problem comes from XP updates because the Compact Flash now is very fast.
tried also affs in linux - worked but same validation errors after a while.
Formating the CF in XP shows no errors, so I'm completely tired about that. If you are telling me that deneb works from scratch: just plug the deneb in zorro, plug a usb drive with workbench, and that's all - I'm very interested in buy one.

I'm not telling you that. I dont own one. While they are more than capable of it, I have no idea in what state they are "out of the box".

Ok, now I have a Deneb

I had to install by hand, because workbench 3.1 (the only floppys I got) dosnt have install. Maybe serial.txt needs to be somewhere?
Trident wont work, it says 'cannot open window' - it's one of the few software that dont run. MUI installed.
so with addusbhardware remove all, then
addusbhardware devs:usbhardware/...usbdma...device (dont remember the name now)
it works, but

still dont work from Boot
Installed all the classes in flash via lucifer, plus podeidon.library, dma.device, input.device, the psbstackloader (i think thats the name)
but the usb 4gb is still not recognized at boot.

To make it even more difficult, my PC is brokened so no winuae.

Any help?

Nope sorry.

You sort of shot yourself in the foot. Getting a Deneb with no hard drive and only limited floppy disks wasn't a great idea.

Chris Hodges and Michael Boehmer of E3B are your only hope.

No - It was a great idea
I have a fujitsu drive, then I formated
the drive and installed wb3.1

I had the os ready to run in a usb pen
so it was just copy paste.

My goal is now to make Amiga run
without harddrive or floppy. I think it's
possible, but still dont know very well
how the flash-deneb-memory works,
probable the problem is called 'trident'
that configures psdstackloader, dont know,
another strange thing is that multiview
cant read the help.guide... weird!

Purpose:
This is the program (!) can contains the stack configuration within and

AddUSBClasses internally with the hardware drivers and classes given
in the configuration. PsdStackloader is automatically created by
Trident .

This program can and should be loaded as a RomTag , if you want to
startup the stack before booting.

Tks Alex
Yes, the problem is called trident
It says 'cant open window'
I have mui and all of the libs updated

Never had problems with mui or multiview.

Thats because why I'm asking if serial.txt
is needed...

psbstackloader is in the flash rom already.
I will pass some time tonight around Amiga,
but it will be very difficult.

Tks again, Alex

Use SnoopDos
http://aminet.net/package/util/moni/SnoopDos

It'll hopefully show what's causing Trident to fail.

DOH!,I just remembered that too small a screenmode
will cause it to fail, Tridents main window is pretty big.

psdstackloader contains your USB configuration, you'll need to get Trident running first and make a new config to suit your setup and then put that in flash with Luciferin.
