A2000 & PIStorm

Daft question but as I can't see it mentioned anywhere here we go.
I've just purchased a PIStorm and a CPU relocator for my A2000 that plugs into the CPU slot.
Is it really necessary to remove the 68000 CPU from the motherboard when the addons are going in the CPU slot of the A2000?
I ask as the previous accelerator boards I had in the A2000 didn't require this, they just disabled the onboard CPU when they were in place.
It's no problem if it does have to be removed, but I prefer to leave things untouched and in place where possible, specially with old equipment.

Yes I think you need to take it out. But it depends on the PiStorm CPU card you bought.

Because PiStorm was originally made to plug into the 68000 socket, bus take-over was an afterthought when they started using it with A600 (who's CPU is obviously not removable). What they came up with is a bit of a cludge.

Some A2000 CPU cards which are also the PiStorm carrier board support 68000 bus take over. If it is just a simple CPU relocator and not the carrier board with CPLD chances are it doesn't.

Try it and if it doesn't boot, remove the 68000?

Ok thanks, will do. It's just a simple CPU riser made by Amigastore.EU and based on kipper_2k's design so I guess it's best to just remove it.
Was just something I couldn't find an answer to. I'll give it a try first and report back on the results.
Could be a while though, I want to test the PSU out first and replace the fan, it's as noisy as hell!

OK. I ended up just removing the 68000 anyway just in case something threw a wobbly because it was fitted.
The PIStorm is working OK but now I face the long road to installing everything and getting it booting.
