@Harrison

If I am not mistaken, the term "Own" refers to any licensed copy in the UK,

one thing that completely shocked me when I took up the law module is the part about contract law in the UK...

just because something is stated in the contract does not make it legal, and this includes any denial of statutory rights, as stated above.

in the course of the module we took apart a contracty by a leading mobile phone company and it was proven to shown atleast 4 direct infringments on statutory rights, i was completely shocked.

still am infact. I suppose the best thng to know is that LAW is about imterpertation and its implementations against a given statute. There will always be greay areas, and this is the domain of the lawyer...

hmmm perhaps I should talk with CFOU about changing my job and skill sets

agreed. Amstrad did the right thing with the ZX Spectrum, and released the roms to the community, in turn creating a thriving emulation scene.

I have a real problem with Cloanto charging such money for something they had -nothing- to do with the creation or development of. Sell their nicely reporoduced videos of the Amiga company at a push, but kickstarts and UAE? seems a bit much to me.

the guy IFW refers to, sounds a lot more worthy of it.

Why all the hatred of Cloanto?

If you don't think their products are worthwhile, then don't buy them!

I'm only annoyed about this kind of ads in Amiga forums. This is definitive NOT the right audience. People here know it better and use alternative options like Gamebase/Mage. And Amiga/C64 Forever are surely no collector items.

a great idea. why not release a kickstart pack from 1.3 to 3.1 without the frills
Yes, the 1000 times aforementioned "light version" omitting all the programs you could most easily get off Aminet & Co.
All Kickstarts, all workbenches, AmigaExplorer - that's all.
This idea was pondered upon about 3 years ago, though - it's not new at all.

See here!

But to this day, Cloanto hasn't reacted on this.
That's why I hate this "bordel". (I prefer the French word here)

All the AF ROM images can be decrypted with WinUAE and a ROM grabber plus the keyfile (supplied).

AF has its place, but its not for most folks here. Nerds like us own enough hardware to justify downloading a romset from the Pirate Bay and using the 1.3/3.1 roms without guilt.

I'd have 1 x 1.2 A500, a few 1.3 A500's, a 2.04 A600, a 3.0 A1200, a 3.1 A1200, A2000 and A4000 plus a CD32 and spare motherboard. About the only roms I dont legally own are the A3000 roms and the A4000T roms. I'd be stuffed if I could be bothered copying my own roms when I could download them and save the time, especially if I was legally entitled to have images of them.

But for those who dont own the hardware or the WB install disk, it's a nice easy to use package to buy and install easily. Good luck to them, but I have no need to give them any of my money.

My experience was that the ROM images thus obtained differed from original by two bytes or so, and wouldn't boot on the real hardware. I didn't research further.

Actually, considering the topic of the thread, I think that very thing is what I hate most about Cloanto.

As far as you all know. I will always support Cloanto and the Amiga Forever series as well as the C64 Forever. You don't have to buy it.
It's America (well some of you don't live in the US) and its a free country.
Anyways...

But personally, Cloanto poured their blood, sweat, tears to create an outstanding package of preservation. That's just my own personal opinion.

Well I'm the right customer for Amiga Forever because I never owned a real Amiga and I'm not an Ebay buyer. I was exposed to the Amiga in 2003 via Amiga Forever 3.0. You can call me part of the Emulation generation. I'm not a hardware purist, but I do have respect for the original Amiga developers and contributors. I don't hate Cloanto, I breathe, Sleep, and Eat Cloanto. I wouldn't be happy without Amiga Forever.
