Boulder Dash type games for Amiga

I'd like a list of good Boulderdash type games for Amiga.. can be PD or commercial, as long as they're good.

There are so many of these games, it's hard to know which ones are worth playing or not.. so it would be great with a list of good ones.

Thanks!

Haven't played a lot of clones, but Emerald Mine is probably the best.

Galaxy is the EM expert, check this:

Not Amiga, but on the BBC & Archimedes I always loved the Repton series

"Prospector In The Mazes Of Xor"

http://hol.abime.net/1170

It is a rather strange Boulder Dash Clone but got pretty good reviews back in the day.

Don't use this URL anymore - use http://www.emeraldmines.net/

Emerald Web covers both Emerald Mine and Boulderdash clones for the Amiga, as well as Boulderdash and EM-like Amiga games.

We don't have a rating system, but if you are after hard levels, the Bond Mine and Crystal Caverns series spring to mind. Emerald Mines series as well as anything by Skippy tends to be fairly easy.

Supaplex (commercial but available as both ipf and adf) is also worth checking out. [Mods: Digital Integration gave us permission to distribute Supaplex]

Thanks for all the replies. And that link is very cool, I'll try out many of those.

I already know about Supaplex.. that's the game I played a little recently and got me hooked on these kinds of games again.

There is a 'sequel' for Supaplex too, Igor and the Time Machine.. but only for PC. It's pretty good though.

If you're looking for good EM clones for the PC you can't go by Holger Schemel's Rocks 'n' Diamonds http://www.artsoft.org/. And best of all it's freeware and available on Mac OSX and Linux as well.

I gave him copies of all my EM disks a few years back and he rewrote the EM game engine in RnD to support the EM level format so RnD now has >10000 EM levels included!

Rocks n Diamonds... that takes me back. I used the code from that as the base for my first ever X program to use the MIT shared memory extension. Completely taught myself programming wait loops for X with that source... 2000/2001? I've probably forgotton most of that... seems ages ago.

Well I downloaded and had a look at the game and it seems really cool.

There are some issues however.. the timing isn't correct in the Supaplex levels and I read in the forums that there are levels which are not possible to finish. But you can easily skip levels though.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Rockford, it's the only Boulderdash-style game I have ever enjoyed...

Yes, Supaplex is better than original Boulderdash, but I think my vote would go for Emerald Mines and its derivatives.

Supaplex? Supaplex! Due to a feeling that most modern games were sucking my brains out with it's mindless blasting or grinding, I thought I'd rummage out this old thinking classic... but I get sprite errors when I try and run it under WinUAE... Do I need a specific ADF or UAE version to run it?

Hi Titler,

I use the version you can find here. With WinUAE 1.5.0 and the A500 most common quickstart (kickstart 1.3, 512KB Chip, 512KB Slow, OCS Chipset) it runs fine and has no sprite errors.
Hope this helps

The important thing about Supaplex is it need eycle exact enabled otherwise you will get a load of graphic errors.

Exact cycle it was... now to just get the hang on timing using an old Miggy style USB Competition Pro... he he he, too used to the fast response of gamepads these days
