Lightbulb BetterWb 3.0 06-OCT-2013

This is a new version of BetterWB workbench pack, that aims to be an enhancement, an updated extension to AmigaOS 3.1, without all those hardware requirement penalties typically associated with these kind of packs. It is indeed a better 3.1 than 3.1 itself!

BetterWB works on any Amiga. It installs on top of a bare AmigaOS 3.1 installation. It is distributed as a set of floppy images and occupies about 8MB of harddrive space.

Changes since last version:

-Added zDir which is an enhanced Dir command replacement
-Included a clone of the popular unix dd command (the data duplicator)
-KeyPressed is a usefull command for handling keypresses in scripts
-The new icon.library is active by default (Now you can see all Amiga icons)
-The powerfull BootUte replaces NoFastMem
-Incorporated a system font cache that requires no extra memory (Fontcache)
-CopyIcon is a tool that allows you to copy and replace any Amiga icons
-MultiHelp is a commodity that comfortably allows you to view manuals, docs, and amigaguides
-yStart is a commodity that automatically generates a Windows like startmenu
-Reworked the default Iconset
-Plus Many fixes and minor enhancements

You can download BetterWB from its homepage at:

Congratz Gulliver my friend.
This update is really awesome! Not only the extra stuff as always, but this time the eye candy was noticeable. Really nice job on the iconset (You only missed replacing the SuperPlus icon but nothing that can't be done in 1 sec via CopyIcon).

Really nice job bro. Many times I got inspired for my own custom WB from your own setup!
Keep the updates coming.

Two releases of different Workbench packages on the same day. Our stars must have been aligned.

Top work gulliver, I know you have a lot of fans with this diffferent approach and fantastic extension to a standard install.

Many thanks for this excellent WB 3.1 upgrade package, gulliver

Unfortunately, the supplied matrix.library crashes on my WinUAE setup. It is used by SwazInfo and causes a Guru Meditation.

But SwazInfo works with the original matrix.library from the Aminet package or a newer version 26.2620, too (don't remember where I found that).

Version 26.2620 of matrix.library (dated 12.5.96) is included in David Swasbrook's Homer Simpson Pointer Eyes package on Aminet: http://aminet.net/package/util/wb/Homer15.

Magicmenu is here, but no control panel.

I think it would be best to at least set the look to standard, remove drop shadows, etc. Else is a dog on 68k.

Thank you for your suggestion. I will see it gets done by default in the next version

@Akira
De nada. Saludos.

@Turran
Please let me know any impressions you get, either good or bad when using it on your A2000.

I enabled 'click not' and on boot I got following message:" Program 'ClickNot' has not yet returned. Should I wait some more?"

Add the tooltype DONOTWAIT to the ClickNot icon.
It will be set as default in the next update, which is in the works.

Roger that. I managed to crash the HD so I reinstalled ClassicWB on it, but I really liked BetterWB for its simplicity. There is a time for ClassicWB 3.1 and/or 3.9 and for an unexpanded A2000, that was not it.

So I installed BetterWB again on it and tossed WHDLoad on as well. Very clean. Perfect for a small installation.

Yeah I love the speed on my A600. I will install NewIcons to get a bit more modern look. I will report back if that will affect speed.
