They respected the old retro case design concept and just polished and modernised it. It looks great.
Lets hope it comes at reasonable price with decent specs. |

Seems it will be hardware-compatible. Unlike the ZX Spectrum Vega which (I assume) was some ARM chip running an emulator(???)

The Kickstarter has launched. £275k raised in just 2 days.
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects...-spectrum-next The Rick Dickinson-designed case is simply beautiful and so unmistakably a Speccy. Just imagine if the Vampire standalone could come with a case half as pretty as this. |

Not liking the design, if it looks like a + then make it look a +!! Can it load my +3 Disks though?

Yeah, that's bummer. Don't understand it. Even the +2 had 2 joystick ports! Got to hope it's not too late for a stretch goal.

You can buy the board alone and house it in a rubber-key Speccy. It requires cutting, but I guess you could gut one of those Bluetooth recreations if you're morally opposed to that. Design is subjective, but I'd say you're in the minority - 1,290 backers in less than 48 hours and only 50 choosing the board alone. Last edited by clebin; 24 April 2017 at 22:30. |

I'm more interested in it's new 256 colour mode, hardware sprites and 512k ram, should get some Amiga/ST looking games.
As for backing, I want to but there is no incentive ATM, it's now funded, so even less reason to risk my money until it actually comes out. Looks decent too imo, Rick is a class designer imo. |

If a 3" FD-1 can be attached would be nice to know if it's recognised as A: and can be autobooted like a real +3 would though! |

If it has output for 15 khz on 1ghz and 512mb then it is a killer. It will sell by thousands if some emulators come out for Neo geo/snes/Mame etc.
PS this is exactly what a new Amiga should be. |

64 sprites, hardware scrolling and 256 colors not bad.

i'd been waiting for this KS for a while, so it was pretty much an insta-back as soon as it launched. looks great - they've really sweat the details and their hearts seem to be in the right place. looking forward to it!

Loads of activity in the past few weeks. Exclusive new Dizzy game from the Oliver Twins - Wonderland Dizzy - and a SID chip alongside the 3x AY chips (in the FPGA). Loads of other upgrades. The package gets better and better, assuming they can pull it all off of course. |

they just add Node Of Yesod.
As for sprites and scrolling I guess it is because it is a ZX Spectrum Next. Isn't the Amstrad plus also having sprites and scrolling? Kamelito Last edited by kamelito; 21 May 2017 at 09:04. |

Seriously no next generation spectrum is going to include the 3" disc drive. The dodo of the disk drive world. Tbe most unpopular format.

Well, it does sound more like a CPC+. I hope they've at least kept colour clash.

So it's a generic computer with optional colour clash?
