create workbench disk

Hi there,
Just got this Amiga 500 from ebay but it came with no workbench disk.....
I purchased a box of brand new 3.5 inch floppies and an external USB floppy drive from a department store in Berlin but not sure how to proceed.
I have downloaded an adf file of workbench 1.3.
Is there a way to format a floppy to an Amiga format and then write the workbench file to the floppy using a pc and an external floppy drive?

I also just purchased one of those gotek drives but had no time to install it yet.
Either way I'd rather just create a workbench disk first if possible at all.
Any ideas?

cheers.

I don't think you can...
without extra hardware or
software already running on the Amiga

You can't write Amiga floppies from a PC drive.

Thanks for the replies!
Unfortunately no friends in Berlin since I haven't lived here very long and I'm not German.
Since option A is not feasible, is there a way accomplishing that task using that Gotek drive I bought?

Yep.
Is your Gotek already flashed for Amiga use and you have a thumbdrive ready?
If so, just copy the ADF you have to the thumbdrive.
Done. ;-)

If not, you just need to flash the Gotek with the right firmware (Cortex, FlashFloppy or HxC - there are threads and youtube vids on how to do that), prep the USB drive (usually a matter of copying a file or 2 if that) and copy the ADF over.

You can do that and run everything from the Gotek.
Now, if you have an external drive, you can copy from the Gotek to the External to create floppies.
If your Gotek is external, this can work IF you have Kickstart 2. or higher. You need to go into the early boot menu (hold both mouse buttons while powering up/restarting) and boot from the Gotek with your WB ADF. Then you can copy to the internal floppy.
If we are talking something like Workbench, to copy, just open a shell (in the System drawer usually).
Then something like:
copy DF0: DF1: ALL CLONE
(That is from memory, so might be wrong. That should copy FROM the internal (DF0) to the external (DF1)
(Note: You'll probably have to format that blank floppy first. It should show you it is bad when you plug it in. Select it and go to the menu choice for FORMAT. Also, you "might" need to prep the floppy so it is bootable??? (memory fading) In that case, diskcopy might be better than copy. diskcopy df0: df1: )

Great thanks! will give that a try.
Now I can start producing my own copies of workbench and sell them online and soon I'll be so rich that I'll be able to buy all these fancy Amiga upgrades.
