Chaos Engine mobile version

Hi,

Anyone played this version?

Are the levels different from the original Amiga/Atari/PC/consoles levels?

thanks

Different is title and in-game music. Display is 240x320 but keep aspect ratio. Additional instructions in game menu. Auto save when quitting. Preacher is still preacher, not scientist.

All music converted to XM format (Fast Tracker 2, Open Mod Plug Tracker) in the Zone. It's totally different than in Amiga version, more like something from ID Software Doom.

The music is a travesty compared to Richard Joseph's work. It uses MIDI instrument samples and all tracks are really boring and short.

Why was it converted and from which format? Would be best to have the original files to be played in the real FM soundchip (probably a YMU759)

It's converted from .mid to .xm with Open Mod Plug Tracker. You can't spot difference and now you can edit it in some trackers which can not use .mid format.

If the game was meant to be played on old phones, then a YMU759 sounds nothing like what you posted, which sounds more like a MIDI XG set.

I'm using Nokia C5 and sound seem to be the same but maybe on older phones it should be closer to music generated by Mega Drive chip or PC Adlib.

Yeah, that phone is new and has an XG type soundset, older phones have an FM-based Yamaha SMAF YMU759 chip inside.
It all depends on what year this game was released I guess.
