Question Amiga X1000 System

When did the Amiga X1000 computer become available on Amigakit. Was it this year or last year? I can only see one system on there website for about £2,200. Is Amiga OS 4.1 good enough to run program's which are like 3D Studio Max, Photoshop and Zbrush? I'm thinking about getting one when I've saved up some money, equipped with high quality base speakers to get the most out of the games audio score and sound effects. Has anyone got one and can you tell me what there like? Oh yeah, just one more question. Is the Amiga's operating system (OS4.1) better than MorphOS or are they just as good in different ways? Which one do you use. Thanks for your time.

The NG/PPC Amiga world is a bit like Marmite for many Amigans.

Personally I really enjoy my X1000. It runs most old 68k apps very well through native petunia 68k emulation or Runin UAE for HW banging stuff.

1. It's an Amiga! /ddni ducks from the Marmite haters
2. Good tinkering and fun developments.
3. Expensive.
4. Perpetually in beta.
5. New software will always be thin on the ground compared to Linux etc.

Do your research make up your own mind.

If you want to try out OS4.1 and get a feel for whether the X1000 is right for you look for a cheaper setup like the AmigaOne or SamEP's, I have a a Micro AmigaOne which is housed in a nice Antec MiniITX, it's only 800mhz PPC but will run most stuff I throw at it just fine and is great to tinker with and didn't break the bank.

Have a look a one of my Videos, but bare in mind they're a little old now so there would have been advances:

3 Amigans have 4 different definitions of "Amiga"

I use AROS and from what I have heard and read (I do not own it) it is not more Amiga than MorphOS (just different). It is the only one that can call itself "Amiga" (at least as part of the name) and it is the only one based on the old "3.1." sources (what is both emotionally important for some). For me the last "Amiga" I bought was a A4000 with 68030, all successors are successors and at least no one more Amiga than the other (just different pricey . But that is my personal view.

Photoshop and similar are not available for any of our platforms (just on Linux perhaps). But buying a X1000 to run Linux sounds a little weird. You should look around, perhaps there are people around using AmigaOS and MorphOS where you could test it or go to a meeting. I use AROS so I cannot make any judgements but people using both (AmigaOS and MorphOS) mostly say that MorphOS is more advanced than AmigaOS (f.e. Ambient the MorphOS Desktop). On the other hand other people prefer AmigaOS because it has the more "genuine" feeling compared to MorphOS. You should take some time and look around.

Errrrrmmmm, What are you on about, AROS is reversed engineered from 3.1.
Plus OS4.1 is based on 3.1, so I dont see your point.

Im not sure what your statement means. accusations? company?

Software

You would think that there would be more digital art and other up to date software for the amiga today as new hardware comes out quite often.

It's a niche market and the number of AmigaOS 4 users is compared to Windows, Mac and *nix very low, so the interest to port commercial software for it or to code from scratch isn't that high.
