Copy contents of DD floppy on HD floppy using duplicate
Are you able to copy contents of a 880 kB formatted floppy to a 1.76 MB formatted one using duplicate?

What is duplicate ? A program ?
You can copy files from DD to HD disks, but you cannot use track copy programs (like DiskCopy for example). Of course you could copy a DD image to a HD disk, but half of the disk will not be written to and the file system will not be able to find its root block, so the disk will effectively be unusable. |

You could always do the old "scotch tape over the second hole" trick! (This should be in a list of Jeff Foxworthy style "you might be an Amiga user if.... series of jokes. LOL )

You can always use HD-disks, but of course you still have the 880 kb limit.

Isn't duplicate one option in Workbench menu that enables you to create a copy of disk?
I'm not that keen about taping Hd floppies and formatting them as 880 kB due to reliablility issues. I guess I have to back up my floppies the old fashioned way, then. |

I thought the old Duplicate option was under AOS1.x, and was replaced by "copy" in later revs. Though I could be wrong, either way that brings up the diskcopy program which insists on volumes being the same size. As for backing up floppies, I simply ripped mine to .adf files and stashed them on 100MB zip disks. (I have an IDE zip drive that I hooked up because the only cables I had long enough to reach my CD-ROM from the 1200s connector required a Slave unit farther down the cable. It works pretty well, though, and I bought 30 zip disks from a thrift shop for $US2. )
For this I use diskimage_device-os3.lha (http://aminet.net/package/disk/misc/...age_device-os3), and the diskcopy method. (create a blank adf file, mount it as idf0:, and drag the disk to back-up over to it. After that, copy the .adf file to wherever you want backups, and repeat) |
