@Amigakit I got my 4xIDE and FastIDE adapter today, thanks for the fast service.

With the Gayle adapter connected and enabled it will not boot my OS3.1.4 installation (with Best Workbench) stalls after a slight bit if HDD activity (no guru)

I have an A1200 with 3.1.4 Roms and 8mb Ram Card. 16gb CF card prepped with PFS3 AIO.

I had a spare 4gb CF kicking around with OS3.9 on SFS, this does boot but I'm getting a lot of SFS errors. I will check the integrity of the CF on another machine.

Have tried to re-seat the Gayle adapter a few times.

Any advice? The link for the software/wiki is not working so I've not been able to download the software at this stage.

Cheers!

Edit:

The 4gb CF is corrupted now, I will try prepping it again.

It seems the Gayle adapter is killing my CF cards! I've been unable to get the 4gb CF working at all even in WinUAE, I moved to another spare 2gb CF card and set that up with 3.1.4 in WinUAE.

It worked fine under WinUAE (PFS3AIO) so I moved it to the Amiga and it booted, I thought yay, I clicked on Workbench and a PFS3 requester came up to say it was trying to read outside the partition, now the CF is corrupt too, hopefully recoverable.

I'll raise a ticket as maybe there's an issue with the adapter or my setup?

edit: looks like I've been able to recover the CF cards with Diskpart/Clean and forcing a new image onto them. I'm glad the 16gb CF didn't boot as I've spent quite a bit of time setting that up!

Is it just not compatible with 3.1.4?

Will the 4xIDE (without FastIDE) work on a vampire (v500 2+)? Or would an unbuffered version even work?

I replaced the 3.1.4 Roms with a spare set of 3.0 and the system seems to run reliably now however there's no speed increase by default and the link to the software doesn't work?

wiki.amiga.org/4xide

Have sent Amigakit an email so hopefully once I get my hands om the software I can test the other PIO modes

Version 1.5 of the 4xIDE software archive is now available to download from the official Amiga.org Wiki:

http://wiki.amiga.org/4xide

This software is for users of the A1200/A600 4xIDE Buffered IDE Interface and also FastIDE A1200 adapter for 4xIDE interface

Just installed mine today. Working out of the box in my A1200 tower with 3.1.4 ROMs.

Installed the software to tweak a few settings, and things are definitely feeling more snappy with regard to disk access. Also very pleased it works great with all the other hardware I have in there

How fast does this interface go, up to PIO4? and what are the speeds like according to Sysinfo?

Also have you tested it with a CD drive too?

PIO4 yes. I've been getting about 2.4 to 2.7 Megabytes/sec on my machine. It's also working fine with a DVD/RW on the secondary channel.

Note that I used DriveSpeed to measure this rather than Sysinfo, as it seems more consistent.

[edit] after more mucking about, have achieved the following in SysSpeed:

Is there a solution to the problem when installing AmigaOS 3.9?

When I upgrade my WB3.1 to amigaOS 3.9 I get an error that I need a newer version of IDEfix.
This problem also occurs when I create an emergency disk.

I am using the latest version of idefix97 from aminet.

Hmm...that's not really fast. Which CPU do you use? Is it faster without the DVDROM? What I've never seen before is that the write speed is faster than the read speed.
Are any other user here?

Why do you need IDEfix '97? If it is to enable the 2nd IDE channel, then the 4xIDE software from AmigaKit should do that: http://wiki.amiga.org/index.php?titl..._IDE_Interface.

Not true, the 4xide program in C: activates the second channel.
Just running gui will not enable second channel.

Is not going to work, first you need to install idefix or it will not see the interface. The amigakit software is only for interface settings.

No, as FOL said:

It should add lines to your Startup-Sequence that enables the 2nd channel. That's what it did for me.

How fast is fast?

I ordered one over two weeks ago and the order is still stuck in 'pending' with three more steps to move through before it gets posted.

Its showing as in stock then and now, so not sure why the delay.

Anyone else experience long delays receiving their Amiga Kit?

Thanks
