Problems when booting with A590

My A500 gives me memory and CPU errors (green and yellow screen) when I boot with my A590 attached to it. Sometimes it boot normally and I can boot from A590. Error changes from boot to boot and sometimes reconnecting the device helps. Sometimes reconnecting harddrive PSU helps. I have no idea what going on with this.

I have tried to clean the edge connector from both devices. Refitted most of the chips. I tried different memory configs. I have 2megs of ram in the unit. I have tried also with 1 meg and amnesia. I also changed ram chips to correspond the jumper setting. EPROMs have stickers on them and they are original.

Any ideas what could be the problem?

Did you run memtests? MBRTest-2 from the Microbotics turbo install disks is a good choice, Amiga Test Kit is another.

I did memtest from a590 install disk and it showed that everything is ok. Anyway there is same symptoms even if there is no ram in the unit.

Have you measured voltages from the A590 and A500 when it fails to boot? Perhaps the power supply in the A590 is failing or the PSU connector is worn down, oxidized or even broken off its solder joints.

Is your A500 otherwise stock? No 3rd party expansions plugged inside?

Just out of curiosity! do you have the little metal thing that you attach to the Amiga side expansion before you fit the A590?
It is detailed in the manual/docs.

I have one with my boxed A590, it appears to exert more pressure so the contact is 100%. Commodore would have added this for a reason, but I have had limited experience with these devices, just lack of time and space to test/use it.

I believe its only purpose is to connect the shield grounds together. I've only seen the clip once, but have had several A590s over the years. :-D

I don't have the clip that is mentioned in the manual. But I'm not sure if that is even necessary. I haven't had time to work on this project lately. I have to measure the PSU when I get some time to do it. I will report here when it's done

I have 2 A590s and neither has the clip

Have you tried disabling autoboot via the DIP switches on the back?
