Dead A500+

Due to massive battery acid damage i'm splitting up this into it's parts for those who are interested.

Matt020 expressed is getting the Denise 8373

Merlin is getting the 1 meg trapdoor memory expansion after it passes through Zetr0's hands first

darkage is getting both CIA's, Paula and Gary, he has also laid claims on the Fat Agnus

If noone claims anything else besides the Diskdrive/Ram then Zetr0 will be getting everything that's left in about 2 weeks from now.

Such a shame you live in belgium, I would of beeen interested in the ram chips and (if it worked) the floppy drive =)

worse case scenario if there are no takers for the mobo, rather than bin-it can you see how much the cheapest postage is to the UK

I could use a dremel like tool and just cut around the ram chips or a bigger part of the board. and leave it in your capable hands to desolder the ram chips.

In my other thread you said you were interested in the floppy selector mod. If you want it it's yours too.

The floppy drive is untested. and i'm currently unable to test it for at least a week perhaps even the better part of 2 weeks.

edit: forget the cutting it'll prolly cost more to go and buy a dremel than to send over what's left after everyone else had their pick

Can I shout up for the ram expansion please, that's if Zetr0 only wants the onboard chips?

@ Zetr0

Could you clarify for my benefit which chips you are talking about?

Thanks

i must note the ram expansion has a little bit of damage from the acid. but it's perfectably cleanable i'm sure

@Merly

I dont need the 1MB marpet, so more than welcome if its okay with smoorke =)

I would like to get a little lookie at the marpet, I have a theory that it should be very simple to piggyback some chips on an A501 to make it work as 1MB (instead of 512KB)

with a bit of work, it might be possible to feed these signals and fool-arround with garry a little and possible get 2MB from the trapdoor but thats another story...

However if you want a 512KB I have spare here, including postage say £5?

hit me up on PM (here or amibay) chaps as last we spoke we were talking about some ROM's

Would closeup pictures of the ram expansion and simms suffice for you Zetr0?
If not I'm inclined to let you have a look at it firsst and then you could send it over to Merlin

That Marpet's fully populated, like the Marpet A600 expansion; are you sure it's only 512k, as I reckon it's a full 1Mb version?

@ smoorke

Me want; priority 1!! Don't worry, I can clean and repair any damage myself.

I'll PM some address details. Please let me know the postage and I'll send some beer vouchers your way

that marpet is infact a 512kb AND 1MB, pending on the number of chips.

my inspection needs to know where in the range its being aserted by garry, and the RAS/CAS line.

theres no rush though,

I offer the 512KB my friend to help you out if you needed it you can always throw it back my way when your done with it.,

@ Zeets

What's the best way to handle this? Should we arrange for Smoorke to send you the lot, then you can send the Marpet on to me? We can work something out on the postage.

I have loads of 30-pin SIMMs here that I can try in it. It may just be that the board was too damaged to see the full 1Mb.

@ Zeets (again)

The spare expansion I have is an Amram-X, Issue 2; is it any use to you for what you have in mind.......??

It has four 256k x4 DIPS on board. It had an RTC and a battery too but the battery has leaked. The damage is minimal but it does need a check over.

@Merly

its possible that the board was damaged with the acid, I have an A501 here that was in an A500+ and the batter had eaten the copper away under the laqure, I was able to salvage the components, even the connector but the PCB was a loss =(

Well I think what ever is easiest really, I am in no rush at all what so ever, so when smoorke get some time its fine, so me thinks if smoorke sends it on to me, I can send it on within a day or too,

not gonna worry about postage it will only be about £1.50 from mine to yours thats not owt to be worried about. besides I get to do my tests on it so that plenty worth £1.50 for me lol

but really clear this with smoorke as I am not sure if he was going to sell the 1mb on seperately, so ask nicely with lots of cuddles LOL and see what deal you guys can arrange =D

I would love to grab the fat angus (8375).

I have a bare a500 board to populate so if its not too much to ask, the (x2) CIA's, Paula and Gary chips as well?

How much for shipping to Australia?

Due to unforseen circumstances I will be sending out items later than expected.
I won't be able to ship out items until the end of april.
I am however closing this action at the end of this week. (next sunday)

@darkage
Gary is pretty corroded all around so i hope i can lift him without breaking any pins.
I also have no extractor tools to remove Agnus in a safe way. so i'm not sure how to proceed on that.
I won't be able to give exact shipping costs until i get to package the chips you wanted which unfortunatly i will only be able to do at the end of the month.

@Merlin
The marpet is indeed a full meg.
Seeing you live close to Zetr0 i would prefer sending it over to him in the same package as the rest and let him then send it over to you.
Damage to the marpet is not that severe so i'm pretty sure all it needs is some cleaning.

@ Smoorke

That's fine with me; please send it with the other parts to Zetr0, who wants to study it; why I'm not sure, but I know that hackery will be involved somewhere along the line....

Jeweller's screwdrivers or other small tools, and be careful.

Once you've got the chip to move a bit, try to work the biggest flat-bladed screwdriver you can get underneath the chip (I use a normal screwdriver for this once the chip is lifting), put something else (another screwdriver, for example) across at right-angles beneath the first one, and lever the chip up trying to keep everything as level/even as you can. Alternate from end to end, the chip should lift almost vertically from the socket. It's worked for me many times in the past. The little blades are also good for prising PLCC chips up out of their sockets. Be careful.
