If you have a high end Amiga then the setting i recommend is DeliTracker2 with its mpega player. Plays MP3 directly (works best with 14bit calibration).
If you don't care about 22khz mono then a 68030/50 is enough.

To convert wav files to 8svx I have used a little program called Wav2Amiga, can't remember where I got it from but it does the job nicely.
It is mainly a drag 'n' drop GUI for Sox (which is included, no install necessary), you just drag your wav files in to the program window and click go, instant 8svx files.

Hah, it's on here too, I missed that. I believe it was a link on amiga.org I followed where I came across it, I may be mistaken though.

Whoooo, this thread has been opened almost 6 years ago !!! A lot of informations about audio streaming on AMIGA. Very interesting

Someone asked for the interest of reading audio files on AMIGA other than mods. It's a good question. Any material connected to an amp can now play music with a playback quality far beyond what is offered by an old AMIGA.

Personally, I added hundreds of CD32 ost's and Amigaremix tunes to my game module playlist to enjoy what is for me the ultimate AMIGA game music playlist. It alternates original soundtracks in mod or exotic chiptune formats played by a real AMIGA hardware and streamed quality remixes or CD32/CDTV game soundtrack remastered for CD releases

Reading nice audio streamed files on AMIGA is easy. On my CDTV with HDD (using PFS3 filesystem) with KS 2.04 and Workbench 2.10, I use Delitracker 2 that is compatible with 8SVX/AIFF/WAV.

Paula is designed for those limitations so it sounds very nice (nicer than the same 22Khz/8bits files played on a modern PC that is not prepared for that) and system does not slow down much, even with a stock A500/A600/CDTV.

All I have to do on my modern PC is to convert MP3 files to WAV/22Khz/8bits stereo and copy them on my external CF card. To convert MP3 files to WAV I use "Koyote Free MP3 & WMA Converter" that permits to convert numerous files added to a list. A good solution to quickly create and read audio files on AMIGA without needing a fast CPU, sound card, lot of RAM, etc...

AMIGA is as usual a surprising computer and needs no artifice to read quality files even with a stock configuration. You just need a good storage unit (HDD/CF/SD/CD...) and 1 Mb RAM to let the magic happened !

The subject looks extinct, I will only tell you, for me, the coolest mp3-like audio format is ADP4.
4: 1 compression, possible to play on low-end Amiga's.
Amiga with 030 easily plays even at 44khz using SongPlayer 1.53.

First You must convert MP3 to AIFF (on PC or Amiga - DiamondGUI), next AIFF to ADP4 (on Amiga - AudioConvert).

I just use Eagleplayer, with that "enhancer" plug in that Buggs wrote.
My run of the mill mp3s sound amazing in 14bit and 44khz.
It's on an V1200 card though.

Had Eagleplayer on my A1200 even playing music on my last party, and nobody noticed anything.
