Turricane's world map

I was browsing an issue (Jan '90) of the Italian K magazine and found this interesting image attached to a preview of "Turricane" (sic):

It appears to be a very detailed version of an alternative world map for Turrican. Does anyone have more info?

That is cool indeed

For a long time now though, on HOL you can find actual "pixel" maps.

Note that this is not the original map. It's a completely different world that vaguely resembles what actually shipped in the final game.

Gotcha; and cool as it's probably from an artist's perspective before handing over to coders / graphics guys.

For comparison, this is the drawing that was featured on the box of the original game.

I wonder if the previous map had been implemented in an alpha version of the game.
