Amiga Absence at CeBIT

from http://os.amiga.com/

Quote:
Mar 6, 2003 - Late last year, Amiga announced its intention to launch AmigaOS4.0 at the CeBIT show in Germany. Since then, the project has advanced into its final stages but unfortunately not to the point where we are ready to ship. We have thus decided not to attend the Cebit Germany show. Instead we are looking at other shows and opportunities in the near future to provide a suitable platform for the launch of the new Amiga.

We apologize to the commmunity for waiting until the last possible moment to make this announcement but despite heroic efforts by all concerned, even up to the last minute, circumstances have conspired to push completion beyond the deadline. We have regretfully decided that making CeBIT Germany the AmigaOS 4 launch platform is not a realistic option at present.
Why should we expect AmigaOS 4 to ever come out and succeed
in whatever it's good for if they can't even manage to show it in March 2003 after months of NOTHING? I remember visiting the AmigaOne related pages in the very first days I started visiting eab and we only have an abomination running linux!*spit*

So lets get realistic: No show at Cebit means no show this year.
And more realism: How on earth did anyone expect OS4 to be more than hot air? Look this way: What you need to develop an OS is _manpower_ , many many hours of it. It doesn't matter how elegant the design or anything, there's just no way around the fact that you need to throw massive manpower at the task to develop and entertain a modern OS. Now it's safe to say that A-OS4 to this day recieved about 0.000001% (or less) of the manhours that went into Linux, for example. Did you really believe a handful of developers working in a shed in Germany could rival any of the available OSes?
Btw. the future is named GNU/Hurd

I can understand your fight with Ainc, but Hyperion **is** really the official Amiga OS today... if you can't understand this, you aren't an amigan at all.
just visited the "scene" forums regarding the matter. All Ican say is...LOL

I liked this one:

It was to be expected that the CeBIT appearance would be canceled, but,
that said I'm waiting for the OS4 launch party nonetheless. Something like the
A1000 presentations in 1985 at New York/Frankfurt, feat. Andy Warhol, rip
and other celebrities. Who could represent the Amiga in 2003? ;-)
Why, if they would cart in Andy Warhol for a while it would still be appropriate

I hear Andy Warhol has agreed and is willing to do a 2003 or 2004 Amiga event.

Why ? Because OS4 is developed by Hyperion and if they say it will come I trust them (I won´t trust Amiga Inc. ) because they brought us great games in the last months/years onto the Amiga Platform (Heretic II, Freespace and so on) ....

Retroman is right.......you can expect vaporware from AI, but not Hyperion. Hyperion has delivered on everything they ever said they would release for Amiga and, moreover, they have done so in recent times when there has been little or no money to be made from the Amiga market.

They're not alone...

Apparently, some big names decided not to show up at Cebit. Ericson and Adobe won't be there for instance.

Can we stop moaning? I do have faith to Amiga Inc and to Hyperion and I believe that OS4 will be out soon...
