The right answer is: one more than you need to ruin any party a neighbor is having at 2am.

Don't put ideas in my head. Now I want to make a bigger box and put four 8" speakers in it.

LOL, no I'm not going to do that.

It'll be the same as what I've built but with Mahogany. New stereo and new speakers.

Use more suitable screws next time You want something like this that can be easily drilled below the surface of the wood. Then if desired you can fill over it and make it invisible.

Easier said than done. Counter sinking is not that easy with a hand drill.

Got started on the project now that I got the straight edge/clamp tool. Got the pieces cut and a little sanding for a proper fit.

Bought new stereo and speakers.

I took the red box apart and I'm giving the old stereo to my brother to replace his in his truck. This gets interesting, his stereo is a JVC and the model is JSD-520. His has the removable face plate.

Now look at the two stereos I have. The old one is the top and my new one the bottom. All same models, JSD-520. Yet, they are built differently and these two don't have removable face plate.

Got the dowels done (cut and sanded). Had to do a side project on the table.

I guess I just have to buy one more tool. I'll need something to cut a rectangular hole. Didn't do so well with a dremel and I don't trust the jig saw.

May as well build a wood shop in my back yard and put all these tools in it. :

Looks good mate, but as I've said previously, I really don't understand why you use such unsuitable screws.

Once I stain it and paint the screws black it'll look better.

That oscillating tool cut the panel like butter. Took no time to get the ends done. The jig saw is now obsolete.

It seems that the Mahogany veneers are crap and I got what I paid for, cheap. The stain's rather dark but at least the screws are black. The black paint I bought is a joke.

"Great for metal!" it says on the can. Yeah right. Why did it just rub off? I fixed it by using black permanent marker from the dollar store.

So for what it's worth.
