Hardware lives and dies by the software out there for it. Software companies chase profits and look for growing markets. The PC and console market just had more opportunity for major sales because they were growing like crazy in the 90's. People were ditching shooters for games like Civilization which helped the PC market explode. Look at how a company like Mediavision which started in 1990 ended up being worth $200M in a couple years just from selling sound cards to the PC market, Commodore never had a chance.

exactly. Platform games especially really went out of fashion, the next-gen consoles were trying to do 3D platform games which never really worked that well imho but apart from strategy games, 2D graphics were being seen as obsolete.

Ironically now 2D platform games are now returning with a vengeance, if Amiga was new now it might stand a better chance!

Dont know if that law is still so, but I do remember somewhere it was mentioned that In Finland you can keep the stuff that you record from TV for 2 years. After that it becomes illegal to have that copy still.

However, I have never heard that law having actually been used against anyone.
