Third (and for now last) part of my scans uploaded. I'll visit my parents over christmas, then I'll go through the stuff I still have lying around there.

Is it just Elite or all of them?
Last night I looked at your Elite scans from work and noticed that they were indeed saved at a high level. What dpi were they scanned at? If you look at the black background, you see big black chunks that look like a block eraser was used on them. At any rate, I remastered the scans. If you'd like to see them, lemme know.

Well, in the case of Elite i was a tad sloppy due to the prevalence of black in the artwork. .

My apologies, i dont think ive done that with any other of the artwork ive submitted, but i would be happy to amend any you feel necessary.

I did go back and amend the file - i removed all the rest of the "real" almost-black surface for a plain black background and i re-uploaded it the other day along with James Pond 3's front which i had missed some scuffing on the bottom right corner.

Everything is now up.

I also took the liberty of going over any scans which were predominately black and went over and black airbrush with the rubber stamp tool. Please replace the ones online with these as Gods for example, has visible lines on it.

I deleted my scan examples cos my scanner problem is fixed now, and they kinda messed up the thread . I've uploaded the scans I've done; Battle Isle '93, Cannon Fodder CD32, Diggers/Oscar CD32 and Frontier: Elite 2 CD32. I'll do the map of Frontier with my next lot of scans.

A lot of times, you can correct much of the boxscans with black backgrounds by bumping up the contrast. Carefully, though, since you don't want to blow out any of the white areas (if used too heavily, details in lighter areas of the box will evaporate!) Photoshop uses profiles which displays pictures differently than they really look (some profiles make the pics look darker, some lighter...but only when viewing the pic in PS!) Sometimes, I will drag a completed scan into my browser (Opera) window to see how it will display there.

Another tip: if you look at some of the older boxscans in HOL (not talking about any of the new contributed boxes), some are too bright - usually with too much midtones. Compare those to the screenshots on the same page. You'll note that the black level (the darkest point on the color palette) are worlds apart. Since the screenshots have not been doctored, as far as brightness and contrast is concerned, the majority of them will reflect proper chroma and luminance levels, as opposed to a scan.

Wow, these guys are contributing SO much to this project...

I *seriously* wish I could help out too, except:

a) All my Amiga boxes were thrown away (curse my family for that)
b) I don't know where my Amiga manuals are right now
c) I don't have a scanner (I wish I had too )

Sorry if I'm butting in like this, but I had to express myself this way.

I found some boxes that you don't have, tell me if you want them and i'll scan and upload them.

Playermanger 2 Extra : The Chase For Glory
Dune II (I know you already have box scan for this, but my box is better :P)
Alien Breed 3D
Subwar 2050
Sim City 2000 (disk scans)
Streetfighter II

Football Glory (back) and SWOS (back) have, for some reason, been put together as one box :\

Theres some more in the garage.

I also see a few games have things like manual scans etc.. do you want them?

Generally, if a manual is different from the boxart, we can use the scan. Or if it's similar, but less ravaged than maybe the box is. In fact, if the package contains any unique items (ie, Willy Beamish came with a Pizza Menu), we are looking for that stuff, too.

In some cases, you may find a promo item for a game in a different game package. I can't remember which game came with it, but I found a nice promo comic for Starlord, which you can see here:

Needless to say, it's not overkill for me! Of course they'll be resized for HOL, but it's always better to scan big for better pixel interpolation when resizing (as opposed to scanning at 72dpi, for example). And even when I resize my images, I maintain my 300dpi setting.

Thanks again for all contributions to everyone, and thanks for getting involved. It makes everyone a part of the team!

Also, preferrably not progressive jpeg, since those images have to render their display, which eats up a bit more processor time. I suppose on the fastest machines it doesn't matter, but I can tell a difference even on the fast systems I use at work. Descending display is cleaner.

I think it would be better if you all create new threads when you upload something or have questions about contributions, because this thread will get very messy and hard to manage otherwise.
