Disk swapping....

I remember having three daisy chained drives from my A1200. Really took the pain out of Monkey Island.

How many drives did you lot ever have running simultaneously? what was the max possible? was RAM for the buffers the block?

the only time I started to find them annoying was on the PC in the Dos/win95 age, never on the Amiga. There was a time when I did not have a CD burner yet and I still wanted to have games of multiple tens of megabytes backed up. The solution:

arj a -r -v1440 -jm *.*

and store all the separate files on disks... ouch. I was happy to get a zipdrive.

I also had 4 linked up and I think that's the most you could have (my zip drive default to DF4: on OS3.9), again I used them mostly for monkey island

Made a lot of racket though!

Only ever had two, mainly used them to X-copy everything

I've got one of those, it still works but not with XP

It was the Iomega ZIP drive with 100mb disks connected via serial, very slow it was

I used it to transfer stuff from my fathers comp to mine, he had the USB version (much faster). I use an 8Gb Sandisk Cruzer now (fecking awesome and immensly faster than anything else we used)

It might bother some now if they have only just started to play Amiga games but on the whole it really wasn't a bother to wait a little

Lots of disks of course was always a bit more of a pain especially if it was Steel Sky

Most of my games were one disks though and i can't really remember hating any waiting on these ones - if anything waiting was part of the fun in a sense, especially with new games.The awesome Apidya came on 3 but it was only after a level you needed to make a swap and so i found that to be perfectly acceptable

And the graphics and great music almost always made it worth it

Ah, memories...
Floppies had their distinct benefits:
FAR better than tapes on my CPC 464. Also the time waiting for Monkey Island to load on a friend's A500 was well spent checking out her other DD's...

...sigh, never played Monkey Island much.

I did and her bra strap snapped when we were running for the bus. You should of seen them, the DD floppies they were awesome

btw. I was only 17 and she was 16 what a great pair of floppies she had

Yes I do, she was only 5 foot and had the biggest DD floppies you could ever imagine

When we got on the bus we went to the back so I could help her to string up those floppies and get them back into a comfortable position. It's amazing what you can use to help fix and support a young girls DD floppies
