I love this project! It is probably the best uae branc for non-windows platforms and the development pace is quite remakable! <3
Do you know about the UAE-PPC-JIT project? (http://euaejit.blogspot.se/)
Would you consider merging this into fs-uae once done?
It has support for ppc macs merged in already, even if it targets AmigaOS4 in the first place.
BTW does fs-uae support jit on x86 architectures already?

I thought some more about the keyboard mapping. Here's an image of a typical international Amiga keyboard (Swedish in this case):

While most keys can be trivially mapped to a 105-key international keyboard, the ones in the red rectangle pose a problem (one key too many). What I have done for now is to map the number row positionally to the host map, and the underlined green key (which there is no space for on a PC keyboard) is instead mapped to the Insert key. However, perhaps the blue key is "less useful" and it would be better to relocate this key to Insert instead, and let the green key take it's place in the default mapping.. -Any thoughts among the general population?

It's going to be implemented sooner or later, so just let me know (you or any other) if the need for stored file attributes on mounted directory HDs becomes significant!

Thanks -Yes, I have visited this blog a few times, and I wouldn't mind merging the code into FS-UAE if I got a clean and nice patch. However, I have no way to test this, so I can't do much more than accepting a patch.

Development versions of FS-UAE support JIT on x86 on Linux and Mac. However, it does not work in direct memory mode, and requires the somewhat slower indirect memory access mode. In direct memory mode, it does not work correctly, and on Windows, it currently crashes.

The Mac versions I publish are 32-bit x86 code, so the JIT is available there by default. For Linux, you must use the 32-bit binaries. With recent Debian/Ubuntu versions, this is particularly easy because of multiarch support - 32-bit debs can be installed and the 32-bit dependencies are automatically installed.

Btw, Tobias Netzel has contributed patches to make FS-UAE compile and work on OS 10.5/PPC, so while the binaries I distribute for Mac are for Intel and 10.6+, FS-UAE can be compiled for 10.5, both x86 and PPC.

A new development version has been released. Changes in version 1.3.29:
  • Implemented fs_application_exe_path for Unix-like systems.
  • Data files (“share”) are now also searched relative to fs-uae executable (executabledir/share and executabledir/../share) before checking the default system locations, and no longer searched for under cwd.
  • Fixed problem where A key press could mysteriously appear on OS X.
  • Fixed bug with shader passes being multiplied on mode switch.
  • Link with -headerpad_max_install_names on OS X [Tobias Netzel].
  • (Launcher) Saving configurations is now possible.
  • (Launcher) Added new “default” input device options.
  • (Launcher) Contract paths with $BASE or $HOME if possible.
  • (Launcher) Automatically scan local config files (.fs-uae) on startup.
  • (Launcher) Net play panel must be enabled with custom setting netplay_feature = 1 (temporary for 2.0 series).
  • (Launcher) New icon to distinguish the launcher from FS-UAE.
As noted earlier, repository and download paths are now changed. Also, the launcher database must be re-scanned for this version (But from now on, I intend to add code to perform database upgrades automatically when the database changes).

Great work with the new emulator!

BTW Frode - the slow menu screen occured when the chat tab was open. Interestingly, it was working normal once you disconnected!

Don't worry. It's not forgotten. It's even part of the README file:
Code:
Amiga mouse must currently be emulated with a native mouse device. A nice
feature would be to be able to emulate the mouse with gamepads - analogue
controls for instance.

An on-screen keyboard, controllable with a game pad / joystick would also
be nice, and is planned for a future version.
But it won't be included in 2.0, which will be released soon!

Speaking of which, everyone please download and test FS-UAE 2.0 Beta if you're a FS-UAE user: http://fengestad.no/fs-uae/download-beta
- And report problems found, of course (2.0 will be released when translations are ready, if no major problems are found).

Hi Frode, I tested fs-uae on Ubuntu amd64 version. The same symptoms like in Arch 64 ( crashing when rtg switched on).
Maybe it is an amd specific problem (Phenom II). Trick like: taskset -c 0 fs-uae, not helping ...

Actually, I recently updated to Ubuntu 12.10, and FS-UAE now crashes here as well when running my A4000/040 with RTG config (this did not happen on 12.04). I'll investigate further...

Suggestion for 2.0 : Differents icons for FS-UAE & the Launcher

i got 2 shortcuts on my KDE launchbar and without name, don't know wich is the launcher or simply FS-UAE

edit : when launched, FS-UAE icon is Purple and the Launcher is Blue... maybe you can keep this color...

I hope the problem is resolved in the newly released: FS-UAE 2.0.0beta35 (http://fengestad.no/fs-uae/download-beta)

* Make sure memory pointed to by p96mem_offset is contiguous with memory pointed to by natmem_offset, fixes crash on Linux with RTG enabled.
* (Launcher) Custom setting "kickstart_setup" can be set to 0 if you don't have and/or don't want to install recognized kickstart ROMs.
* (Launcher) Updated translations: pl [grimi], sr [Milanchez], de [nexusle].

The launcher has had a separate icon since 1.3.29 -Perhaps you created a copy of the launcher (which still references the main fs-uae icon) when you added it to the launchbar. Check the KDE main menu and try adding it again!

Most likely an icon cache issue. I searched a bit on the web, first try:
Code:
sudo touch /usr/share/icons/hicolor
...this might force a cache rebuild in KDE. Or perhaps like in https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=121653:
Code:
cd /var/tmp/kdecache-$USER
rm icon-cache.kcache
- and log out/in again.
