Agony as seen through Dall-E

With the new uncropping option in Dall-E 2, I tried out what the screens would look like though they eyes of AI. Not perfect, but certainly interesting for any remastering purposes.

Tools used: Topaz Gigapixel + Dall-E

Hi Jizmo!

Wow, beautiful!

What did you do exactly? I'm not familiar with either Topaz Gigapixel or Dall-E

Cheers!

I upscaled the original 320x256 art to 4k with Topaz Gigapixel, which uses AI algorithms to try to actually understand what the image is to add the missing pixels, and then added more surroundings with Dall-E that takes the original image as a base and works to "uncrop" the image based on your text prompt.

Here's Dall-E in action.

can it increase the colors without changing the resolution? would allow to create 256 color screenshots for AGA conversions.

The AI probably has to be trained for that. It's easier to just post process the images.

Amazing

Great job!

PS. Could you upscale them individually? Up to 1920x1080?

One can downscale these images back to 320x256 resolution and drop the palette to 256 colors to find out that the gradients are much smoother. On the other hands the small details will become less detailed since they are no longer hand pixeled and you really need that to maintain that 'sharp' pixel art quality.

If I was to do an AGA treatment to these images, I would use a combination of adding both to different layers and using the original pixel art for detailed bits and remastered ones for the large color areas and gradients to get the best of the both worlds.

I used to apply a manual gradient (using GIMP) parts of pics when there was an obvious attempt at a gradient, but not enough colors. ML A.I. should be able to detect that too (if properly trained).

Problem with that approach that gradients very quickly use a lot of very similar colors and you end up with a 16M color image... too much for AGA

Staggering. I'd hang the 4th image on my wall.

Wow, very nice. Do you have full resolution images that can be used as desktop backgrounds to share ?
