Ez Tower Psu

I recently acquired a 1200 housed in a Ez Tower.

When i looked inside,i noticed that there is a blue wire (12v) which
was pushed into the middle hole where the power supply connector
usually plugs into,on the back of the 1200.

This actually works fine, but also wired up from the power supply unit
is a proper 1200 connector, which was just rapped up in the case.
So would i better of using this rather than the single blue 12v wire ?

Hooooo

On the original E-Tower it came with an adaptor that already adds the other feeds direct to the A1200 mobo but blue wire was needed to carry an extra feed to outside centre pin as there was no way to attach it otherwise :without the user soldering it on.

Eyetech proberly felt this would NOT make it EZ LOL

What you have is a "hacked" in power plug cable proberly because the original owner felt a loose wire in the back might just fall out [ eyetech provided a little metal plate to fit over it and to act as a clamp to the 1200 case moving , it looks NAFF but works ]

So providing you check the the HACK is wired correctly the choice is yours but I dont think your mobo need TWO feeds a once , so you will have to see what you need to disconect , as it is proberly fitted with an E-zkey board adaptor and also the power is routed through the on and re-set switches on the front of the tower so you can't just unplug the main addptor and think alls ok .

Its a pity I can't find my Eztower pamphlet or I could send you the details for you to check

Has anyone scanned theirs ? as it would be useful for me too as eye tech no longer seem to carry a downloadable version .

Ok.........so there is power going to the 1200 motherboard via a connector from the power supply to the floppy drive power connector on the main
motherboard ?

And the 12v thin blue wire goes to the back of the 1200 to power the
audio and RS232 circuitry.

So no need for the hacked power supply lead that is wrapped up inside ?

Hooooo

you assume correctly THX1138

Your additional lead is a hack from a worried prievious owner who proberly thought it would fall out , so he decided to " Add it "

There again he may have used it to power a ADDITIONAL Amiga and was making use of the towers supply , as he could slave them together

Well its one use after all its now your propety and while its in that bag [ proberly as an innsulator as its live !] its not doing any harm , unless your one of those panic mongers who lay awake at night wondering if you switched off your TV at the plug ?

Hope that answers it for you DON'T HAVE NIGHTMARES
