It is not necessary to change the memory, just the new FW 12.7 and the memory problem is resolved.

Changes in firmware 12.7 version:
- DRAM refresh algorith, more friendly to different kinds of memory
- changing timing to access RAM, more stability
- optimize 16-Bit DataBUS

@project23
try overlock at 40MHz. With Firmware 12.7 your card must be stable.

It is quite stable now, but I will try 12.7 later.

To overclock to 40mhz, do i take the clock from the FPU? Can I use the jumpers?

Cheers,

John

Change OSC from 66,6MHz to 80MHz.

Ohhhh I see....

Yeah, when I next do a digikey order, I will get an 80mhz osc.

I'll try 12.7 in the meantime though.

Cheers again,

John

Could someone please tell me which version of Fw I should load? White Furia with Oki chips.

It's a bit difficult to see...

Could you give the product code on one of the ram chips please?

Should be something like 'KM44C....'

John

EDIT: Actually it looks like MSM5117400F... its different ram to mine, and the datasheet doesn't seem to specify 4k or 2k.

Maybe Boris can chime in here and help? Maybe send him a PM? (Boboo_SK)

On third glance, i THINK, that it's 2k ram...

But PLEASE do not take my word for it. I assume the 2k/4k thing refers to cycles, and yours looks like it might be 2048 cycle dram.

But PLEASE do ask Boris - it does say the wrong firmware is 'dangerous' on Lothareks page. I don't know how true that is - i assume it can just be flashed again - but I really really would double check, as its a different family of memory to mine, so i really can't be certain. The datasheet for mine (KM44C4100) does describe how to check whether 2k or 4k.

I tried 12.7 (2k) and just got a yellow screen all the time.

Going back to 12.5 fixed it. It's pretty stable with 12.5 (2k again).

Not sure what's up - might look at it with diagrom.

EDIT: I had to google for the firmware jed's as Lothareks link is down. I got them from http://www.amiga-news.de/en/news/AN-...-00025-EN.html

2k version for OKI DRAM. DRAM MSM5117400 need 2k and DRAM KM44C4100CK-5 is 2k.

At 2k memory the limit is 33.3MHz in case of 4k it is possible to work 40MHz. I recommend replacing 2k DRAMs with better.

2k version was tuned for OKI DRAM, I will try to tune FW to another 2k.

Yeah I have KM44C4100CS-6.

Originally I had KM44C4100CK-5 but three ram chips were bad. (Always same error in MBRTest-2 for those chips).

I could not find KM44C4100CK-5 for sale, so I used KM44C4100CS-6. I noticed that other Furia's sometimes have this ram.

I will probably not change RAM as I have already changed once, and also rebuild this Furia. My A600 will be for games, and right now Furia is stable so I am happy.

With 12.5 2k I am very stable. Sometimes I will have bad bits in MBRTest-2 on one memory chip, but only when Furia is hot. (Furia get's very hot around memory chips during MBRTest).

Furia is very good, but it has been hard work to make work.

Thanks,

John

looks like Lotharek is pissed with ebay

Furia now £499!!

Question: This price is crazy - are You nuts ?

No, I am not. consider this auction only as link to my shop : /www.lotharek.pl/ I really dislike that Ebay has become, with high charges and idiotic rules. besides, if You ask me question WHY SO EXPENSIVE - it means, You can not read and honestly retro fun is not for You...

Nice one. stick it to the big guy Przemyslaw

Hi,
just desoldered the KM44C4100CK-5 (2k), soldered KM44C4000CK-5 (4k) DRAMs and flashed the 12.7 firmware > works good.
But changing the oscillator with a 80MHz-type results in a black screen.

I don't really blame him I tried selling my 1080Ti on Ebay, buyer had changed his mind within about 5mins of clicking buy it now. He reluctantly paid then complained about it running too hot so I accepted return as it was clear he was either after a partial refund or had simply changed his mind. I don't know what's going on but there just seems to loads of money/time wasters on there. I've not listed anything expensive since even with the £1 fee deals you still have to fork out postage and return postage if the buyer is an idiot.

I've been lucky mostly, I don't sell much and everything I do usually starts at 99p listing.
Its all in favour of the buyer though. Sellers are treated like S*it.

Sorry to take the thread a bit of topic. I am having some small issues with my Furia (RAM not getting recognised on boot etc.) and would like to update from the version 12 FW I am running (according to Sysinfo) to the latest version 12,8 to see if it fixes anything.

I know that Lotharek is doing the update - at a very fine and fair price - but could someone maybe guide me to the correct CPLD update equipment? And maybe share some do’s and don’ts?

I have a hunch that the latest 12,8 FW will not be the last and sending to Poland all the time is a bit of a hassle :-)

Thank you in advance!
