Cdtv

I see on another thread about fitting a new laser to the CD32 is it possible to repair the CDTV laser ?
Anyone done it ?
As it's the old style caddy system I guess finding a new replacement drive is unlikely !

I have a spare CD unit for the CDTV. I need to test it to see if it works O.K.

If you cant fix it, you can use it as a A500, just plug in a floppy drive to the external connector. Maybe a SCSI or IDE HD with appropriate adapter and 3.1 ROM.
So not totally useless.

Have you confirmed it is laser problem? For example one common problem causing CDTV to not read any CDs is incorrect caddy position due to CD mechanism springs losing their tension.

TBH . it's been sat in the loft for over 10 years , that may now be the least of its problems !

I will dig it out over the winter and have a play .

many times it acts like the same, I have to re-insert the caddy some times to start read the discs. So as I see, one issue can be with the laser head, and the next is the spring.... good to know when I'll have time to fix.
