IDEFix express - lost software, what to do?

Hi all.

I bought an IDEFix express adapter back in 2007 or so.. I never used it back then. But now I want to put it to use, however since then I have lost the software that came with it.
I downloaded an archive from amigakit i belive that said it should be the software for idefix express. Sure enough, I installed it and used it with a HDD, all seemed fine.
Then I replaced the HDD with a CF card and i started getting problems.
I read here on EAB that i needed to patch the idefix file with some patches found on aminet to fix idefix to be compatible with CF cards. Said and done.
The Amiga boots again, but now idefix bugs me and says that it's not registered. What to do?

I also have another problem... Idefix reports that both channels are running in slow mode even though both jumpers are closed.
I only use one port, could this be the issue? Or is my idefix broken?

Contact Individual Computers. They may be able to help.
I dont think we have it here.

I'm quite sure that this is related to that the express-adapter isn't fitted correctly. I had the same problem and i got rid of the info that idefix not registered when i sanded down a part of the socket that hit a resistor near Gayle. I haven't input any key-code and so on for Ide-fix with the registrationprogram. I think all this is integrated in the Express-adapter!

Perhaps i'm wrong but it works for me!

Now when I think again, I never entered any registration info with my IDEfix Express, it worked without it. When I only had an IDE-splitter many many years ago IDEfix asked for the reg info (which can be found on the 'net).

As I already posted (I must have been speaking alien, ), IC use a special version of IDEFIX. This does not require registration.
The IDEFIX97 will not work properly with the Express adapter.

If your going to use IDEFIX97, you may as well throw the gayle adapter away.

i am using a cf card, so i needed to apply this patch:
http://aminet.net/package/driver/media/IDEFix_patches

i am using idefix express software that i found on vesalias homepage:
http://www.vesalia.de/files/idefixexpress.dms

the patch only works with the update found on individual computers homepage, but when the patch is installed idefix started nagging me to register.

has anyone successfully patched idefix express for use with cf's without getting the nag requester?
if so, could you please describe the procedure?

I think you're wrong. I'm using the idefix97 package from aminet with the patched idefix from Doobrey. The idefix-express-adapter acts as a dongle, so no registration is required.

Yes I have.

- Download idefix97.lha from aminet.

- Download the eb_final update from IC homepage.

- Apply the patch to the eb_final update.

- Replace the idefix command from the idefix97 archive with the patched idefix.

- Install idefix97

Works like a charm for me (and others too).

Edit: I want to make it clear that Doobreys patch MUST be used in combination with idefix97 from aminet and IC eb_final update. When Doobreys patch is used in combination with older versions of idefix, the wrong idefix.library version is in use, and registration nag requesters may appear.

Yep, your right.
IC's idefix doesnt have reg. I seem to remember it not liking idefix97 though.

If it works then it works, drivers for express board must be onboard.

ok i might try the version from aminet then, but as i understand it, it's not for use with the express adapter?... i guess i will have to use sysinfo to check the speed i get.

Edit: From the readme of the aminet version:

Register 3.1 (23.02.99):

- Now knows about IDEfix Express

so it indeed seems like it will work with the express adapter.. very confusing as the idefix express was shipped with a special version. thanx for the help boys! very much appreciated!

You can try sysspeed. Edit: Or scsibench.

If you get slow transfers there's 1 thing you should know.

You say you have a blizzard 060.

Jens Schoenfeld mentioned on A1K.org that the idefix-express in combination with a 060 can be very slow.

See here: http://www.a1k.org/forum/showthread....ghlight=idefix

See the last post (Paradroid is Jens Schoenfeld).

The original poster had slow transfers with the idefix-express and a blizzard 060.

Here's a quick translation of what Jens Schoenfelds post says:

He basically says that the blizzard 1260 is very slow accessing the A1200 motherboard functions (chipmem,IDE, KS). Transferrates above 4 MB/s are pure luck.
With a blizzard 1260, transferrates of about 3 MB/s should be considered as OK.
With a 030 faster transferrates are possible. Transferrates of 5 MB/s and faster are possible.

I believe Damion (who is also an EAB member) had very good results with an Apollo 060.

I found a thread where Damion says he gets 5 MB/s
with his Apollo 060 and idefix-express.

See here: http://www.amiga.org/forums/showthre...idefix+express

Edit: BTW, I'm getting 4.3 MB/s with my idefix-express and a 030.

Anyway, good luck.

Yep that's true!
My former ACA1230@56 had approx ~5.5MB/s while with BPPC060@60MHz I had about ~3MB/s (all these without the IDEFix driver since I was using only 1 channel).

I always had the curiosity if Gayle of A600 was different than the one of A1200.
It would rule so much to be able to mount an IDEfix express onto an ACA630 A600 :P
