Tiny PAL LCD for A500
Hi! Saw the other thread but a big one with flickerfixer etc isn't for me.
I was planning to use a tiny LCD for my A500, 9" or less. - The picture should be "at least as good as 640x256 on a small TV looks". - It should run off "SCART" type RGB so I can make a simple adapter between the screen and the video connector on the A500. (Edit: or at least video) - It shouldn't be super-slow (1/50s response time is asking too much, but the zippier the better). - The smaller the better (4-5"?) - Not crappy color depth. 18-bit is more than enough though. - Able to run off the A500 PSU. (A500, 1/2M slow, extra drive, that's it) I saw some of those screens for the back of the headrests in a car, are any of those good? Last edited by Photon; 26 November 2006 at 18:42. |

The cheapest solution would be an LCD intended for the XBOX or PS1.

Well, they certainly seem cheap on eBay. Could have picked one of for a dollar if only the maddafakkas would sell outside the us!
They all seem to have "mounts" though, and they have an elliptical outline (ugh!). Any rectangular ones with just the video connectors? |

Looked around a bit and I think I'm gonna go for an Xbox screen. Will it work with the Amiga resolution? i.e. PAL 320x256?

Not too sure. PS1 will definately work, but the XBOX normal operating res is interlaced.
I would imagine it would work as XBOX can (but doesnt) do non-interlaced. |

BTW, some PSone TFTs only do composite.. The original Sony branded ones are known to do RGB.

OK, I think I'll wait for a better PS1 screen, since there could be an interlace issue with the XBOX ones? Would rather like the Amiga to do the flickering only if I select 640x512

Either it would work in non interlaced or you would have a blank screen. I am 90% sure it would just work. It is more likely that PS1 LCD screens CANNOT do interlaced screens than XBOX ones cannot do non-interlaced. The PS1 could never do interlaced modes and so why include the extra electronics to handle it. |

If it were true I feel that people would have done intro screens in interlace to get high res.
There must be a limitation which makes it impractical. |

Indeed, I think it only works correctly if your code runs in 1 frame. But of course with Photon being an oldskool coder he's only interested in 320x256 and 640x256 (for workbench) anyway

Yeah, pretty much. Since I have a home computer collection it would be handy to test stuff, or to bring one up for a nostalgia session.
