Surprised to see Stunt Car Racer missing from the list, not that it would've been my choice (even though it's very good). I nearly picked Skidmarks 2, had some great times playing that game, with all the different tracks and cars and cows.

In the end I went for All Terrain Racing, specifically the xmas demo level (with the cool xmas music) which I played to death!

I would say the best Amiga racer is Stunt Car Racer.

But since that is not on the list, I will pick Lotus III, which I liked heaps.

For me, the best Amiga racer is ATR and the best racing simulator is VirtualGP.

Indy500 just has the _best_ crashes.

Drive up the circuit the wrong way. Collide with 200mph cars. See the fragments fly

Had to go with ATR, although it was a close call between that and Jaguar XJ220. I had a lot of fun playing ATR.
I loved the look, it's one of the more beautiful Amiga games that shames the consoles.

But then Jaguar had that intro!

No. ATR for pure playability.

You're right - racing games can't just be piled into one category. I hate "top down" racing games so I'd never vote for one, but someone else might think that "real 3D" racers are slow and boring.

There's also motorcycle racing (and motorcycle real 3D, and... ). For best motorcycle racer, I'd say Prime Mover. It's amazingly fast and once you start playing you get used to the somewhat flat graphics.

Prime Mover is my pick as well! What a nice underrated little game that one is...
Top-Down, has to be ATR or MicroMachines. MicroMachines excelled in 2P mode. But what category would Skidmarks fall into? I like that one as well. I always think of it as a super super "super off-road" :P

Pseudo 3D, Lotus 2 no question. Second place for Crazy Cars III/Lamborghini Challenge

And 3D racing, F1GP. Stunt Car Racer was fun but too dull sometimes, and teh CPU was unfairly unfair.

Real3D : F1GP (patched for frame rate & with a wheel! PC's GPL's daddy!)
Fake3D: ...can't think of a game for this (played the scroll backwards Lotus...)
Non3D : Nitro/Super Skidmarks

Mentions: Vroom (It's great! (crashed alot tho )) Stunt car racer (How'd he miss this one? ) Red Zone (030 hungry (But Bugged ))
Thats what comes to mind.

You know, I ONCE managed to fall of the track in Stunt Car Race, and still CATCH UP the CPU drone and WIN the race.

I did it ONCE.. so it's POSSIBLE to do it, just stop whinning about the CPU unfairness

Just kidding... (But it's true I did it once)

Prime Mover was really cool and way underrated. Still think that Super Hang-On is better. And of course, No Second Prize was WAAY better. NSP is just awesome!

Loved a lot of those esp lotus II and Super Cars II as they were great 2 player games.

But the king has to be F1 !

BuggyBoy is fantastic!! a pity theres no others buggys, but is pretty addictive.
